Hi Everyone,

Would love to hear some feedback on some dial designs I have pulled together. I have made a couple of prototypes so far but the final watch will be 41mm with different hands. It will be running either an ETA 2801 or 2824.

The watch is dedicated to my grandfather who passed away earlier this year at the age of 93. He was a decorated soldier (combat infantryman and bronze star) in the Battle of the Bulge in World War 2. All of which contributed to the dial design. I will be doing a small run for myself and members of my family.

The dials are either white with black printing, black with gold or blue with gold. The dials shown are not the final product (as shown by the imperfections) as I am still perfecting the process.

The current prototype in the pictures is 36mm case with an ES95 manual wind movement.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The rank at the 6 is a bit difficult to identify. I would have tried to get this done together in the logo. Perhaps with some ID plates on a chain. The index number style is good (I would even have tried to go a more extreme way with the letter style and with the dial in this case, but not with this watch case..) now this a pretty solid standard design , not a reason why I would take such cost and effort but its ok. White hands on Black dial with yellowish/brass signs.. now thats your taste.. the white one is better after my understanding..

Thanks for your feedback. The hands used in the prototype are not the final hands, they are just what I had laying around. The black gold dial will have matching gold hands.

Not that typical for a B - watch
I am not familiar with the term B-watch. Can you please explain it?

Thanks

Beobachtungs Uhr after ref " B " .German term. You would say military watch .. field watch.. pilot watch

Like the old Hanhart and Laco types

I like the clean straightforward design, with good legibility and no aspects that are overtly fashion-forward or archaic. I like the modest case size. I'm not so keen on the Mercedes hour hand as I feel it draws too much attention to itself. I'm impressed that you located a cashe of unused ES95s for these watches. How many will you make?

Would be nice if you could somehow make the dial feel a bit deeper, it looks very flat but otherwise a nice take on the field watch with a clear soldier inspiration. I agree with the disagreement on the Submariner style hands though, I feel it doesn't quite work with the rest of it while standing out in a poor way.

Thanks. Yes the Mercedes hand set is just what I had laying around and will not be the final ones used. They will be the simple straight style shown in the fifth image digital mock up.

Somehow I overlooked the difference in hands on the 2D render... those are a much better fit, good choice. I think though, perhaps the seconds hand could do with a lumed tip or tail? And maybe a more militarian color than the red.

Yes, I agree completely. That change to the seconds hand will likely be on the final product.

I think the white hands on white face makes the watch not terribly legible.

Consider me your novice, newbie reviewer. I love the facts surrounding your inspiration, however, my very first initial impression, was that this is a soviet watch. It's the star at the 12 o'clock. I also feel your "chrono-dox" font does not fit the watch and maybe is too prominent. Just my opinion. Keep at it and good luck.
