Hi WUS,

I've been absolutely torn on my first luxury watch purchase... I've narrowed it down to two options of one model - the Rolex Milgauss 116400 Black versus White dials.

I'm leaning towards the black at the moment, but I tried on the white today and it is very, very cool! I really like it, however my main concern is just in that, I want it to be an everyday watch... I work at a conservative-ish corporate office (none of the offices in Australia are too conservative compared to the US or UK however), so I feel that the fairly large orange indices is maybe not the most suitable watch for the office.

With considering an all-rounder, I've been asking myself "would I wear this watch to a job interview" and "would I wear it to the beach/hiking", and I want the answer to both questions to be yes - and I'm not too sure about the loud-ness of the white dial in a conservative setting.. but then again maybe I'm over thinking it.

It's interesting how different the two watches wear very differently for me... in the black dialed watch, I really like how the focus put on the lightning bolt seconds hand which really pops, and I think dial is amazing balanced with the subtle orange indices on the outer edges. The white however doesn't focus on the lightning bolt hand at all, I think your eyes are drawn very much to the bright orange indices. The white also wears a bit bigger than the black due to the high contrast dial and the numbers on the edges too I think...

So I'm leaning towards the black, what do you guys think?? (photos below of the watches on my wrist)

haha I tried that on today too, it just didnt really do it for me... (I assume you mean the blue dial) I really don't like the green crystal. Maybe if it didn't have the green crystal I think I'd really like it, but I dunno, it just looks a bit aesthetically unclean to me.

photo of it on my wrist:

This might be a bit annoying but I am going to say it anyway, why not the green dial version!! I like that the best in the Milgaus range.

I was going to say the same thing regarding the blue dial. if that isn't in the cards, I think you have answered the question above. The black is more versatile to me with less loud colors on the dial and can really be worn for any occasion.

From the pictures you provided, I think the black looks better on your wrist too, but that is just my 2¢

That's a tough call. I actually like all three. In this given situation I recommend looking at an Explorer!! Seriously though they all look good. I would probably lean to the black dial version. Less flashy and more versatile. Good luck.

I have owned the black for six years and it's still my favourite watch. Form a short distance it's very classy, but up close it has that perfect amount of character.

Not a fan of the green crystal versions. I don't mind the white, but it's a little too flashy for me.

Go for the white dial since they are gonna discontinue it or so I have heard.

Unless you own or plan on owning an Explorer II Polar... Then I'd get the black Milgauss.

If you wear lots of suits go with the black that's for sure. The orange on white is too sport for suits imho. Good luck!

I didn't even realize there was a white milgauss! that is a good looking watch. I would also argue that it has more useful range in terms of activities/dress than the black. I guess that's subjective though.
