Received the two ordered GBD's. Unpacked them, first impression, nice!

Upon further inspection, hmmm, that flat tire look, will I get used to that? (Nope)

Those easy to press nicely shaped buttons, are they indeed an improvement over other models? (Nope)

The new interface, is it an evolution/step up over the old system? (Nope)

Hopefully the watch/GUI can be customized to be happy with it! (Nope)

All in all:

The interface is... sloooowwwwww. Double or triple pressing the buttons has no use whatsoever. On other models knowing the third option is the timer would result in beep beep beep timer. Now it's a matter of beep... Beep... Beep... A great, the timer. For me, it's atrocious.

The button feel itself doesn't make it better either, it's very very mushy without any feedback.

No hourly beep? Really? (Knew this in advance, but still)

No option to customize main time screen /order of options pressing the Mode button? Really? (Same here)

The screen, well, the resolution of course is awesome. The amount of data you can display is great as well. But the black level is poor. You constantly are being reminded of the top and bottom bars, which drives me crazy. The screen simply should've been completely used. The GBX will satisfy that issue.

So, concluding. Am now looking at two watches I really wanted to like, really wanted to keep at least one, but most probably both will be returned. That's a complete first after buying lots and lots of various G-Shocks.

Ymmv, obviously. For me this series alas for now is a complete disappointment.

Gonna give them both some more love now and see if these feelings will change.

It's all in point of view. Is it a great fitness watch? Nope but very good as watch. Battery life is impressive.
Is it great fitness wearable? No, it's a watch.
Most of smartwatches are fast while most of GPS runners watches are slow due to cheap CPU and MIPS display. So been a bit slow is kinda given.
Why people so fixated on missing hourly beep?
It was kinda cool let say 30-40 years ago when you announced to the world yes i have The digital watch! But today...
I mean i really don't get it. Not like criticizing anyone.

Damn, I can't imagine a G-shock watch without hourly beep. I really hope that you were wrong guys.

So true, ive seen a couple of youtube reviews from asian people, didn't understand a word of what they were saying but when they pushed the buttons they response time was ok, it wasnt really fast but it wasnt as slow as some people say here. Ive got one on order that should arrive next month(spain is a bit slow on releases) and if it takes as much time to respond as some of you guys say i will most likely return it.

Pressing a button will result in a quick response.

Pressing same button twice or more often is a lesson in patience. You have to re-press until arriving at the desired Mode option. Or. Press. Slowly.

When you want to go to Mode option "4" and press the button four times it will for sure not end on option 4. Maybe 2 or 3 at best.

Is this for most people a deal breaker? Probably not. It is for me incredibly annoying? For sure.

Again, ymmv. I find the whole UI thingy very very very sluggish.

Example?

Press the left Run button, and once more to start the activity. All is well.

Press again to stop, for example after two seconds.

The watch asks to resume, save or delete this activity.

Choose delete. Once again, this was a two second activity.

How long does this deletion take? Is it instant, well, no. Two seconds? No. Five? Eight?

This takes around 12 seconds. For twelve seconds you're looking at a "Please wait" screen.

Like seriously, come on. If it has to calculate the route of a three hour trip, sure. But a two second activity? Simply laughable. Imho.

I used to work late at night so the hourly beep is like a tool to me. Most of the time I can know the time by simply listening that beep.

Is there any explanation for why these models do not have user-selectable positive/negative display ?

I can only think of two possibilities
1) Casio are too lazy
2) The display uses more power when the majority of pixels are white, versus black

I am skeptical about #2 but I do not know much about MIP displays

You misunderstand my question. I ask why it is not user-configurable. These are modern high-DPI displays. Not like old G-Shocks. You can make it positive or negative in software.

For proof, see:

So I am asking why the entire UI cannot be user-configured between positive and negative. I would like home screen to show the time in large black digits. It would be significantly less reflective if it was black text on white background. And more legible in low light.

I understand that negative is more "cool" for young folks and mall ninjas. So why not include the option for both? Then everyone can be happy.

I've had several Garmin products - a fenix 3HR, 2 instincts (reg and tactical), and currently a 6x Pro....

The resolution is great, and you can switch the display between neg/pos......

......but as I noted, the GBD100 is not in the same league as an instinct....

How's the resolution on the instinct? About the same as the Casio or a little worse?

Quite fancy an instinct but the test looks a little pixelated in pictures

Pardon my French but what is that new fashion to buy two watches and hope to keep one?

Sorry, but it is disgusting.

Law over here:
Buy online: always able to return the item (unless hygienic goods).
Buy in store: depends on the willingness of company to be able to return/swap.

Furthermore, these watches were bought from Casio directly, and they specifically offer this service, so yeah, why not.

And one return after 20+ items bought, not excessively disgusting, imho.

But, after seeing that even returning to the homescreen after only pressing the Run button (without even starting an activity!) takes 12 seconds both watches will be returned. This is really incredibly silly.

well... theres many opinions in that other thread about the gbd- h1000 and gbd-100, many pros and cons by users, listed niceley. to create only a "hating"-thread about this watch isnt the objective way. its still a fine edc watch.

but yeah, im about to send mine back, too. short said: many cons. the watch needs several updates and a lower price, different color of the case (want all black). then i might buy again.

oh and: the endless watch journey continues!

I have a Suunto Spartan Trainer for HR, training etc. and I love it, but I'll take the comfort of my DW-9000 any day. Indestructible. I also think Casio got into the smartwatch game a little late. No hate, though. Casio broke as much ground as any of the newer companies if not more.

hello I just bought this watch, I find very beautiful, frankly I only use it to count steps and check the time. I just wanted to know if it was possible to deactivate the bluetooth because I disconnect it from my phone, because there is the bluetooth light which only flashes I don't really want to empty my battery in 2 months. While waiting, I found the trick to put myself in airplane mode.
