The (E510) Exceed is the first watch I have owned that does not appear to have a direct mechanical connection between the crown and the movement.

When I received it and started to set the time the rather sharp click every half turn of the crown felt a bit like a broken mechanical watch. After a brief panic I realised that, when turning the crown, each click seems to signify that a signal has been sent to the watch and, depending on the mode, this tells the watch to do something.

Does anyone know anything more about this 'fly by wire' approach?

Apart from that, the Exceed, as already mentioned by many, is a little jewel of a watch - probably a diamond as the face glints and sparkles almost to the point of being distracting.

No one has mentioned the clasp yet: it is reminiscent of the last generation of JLC clasps but, comparing the two, it is both better designed and better finished and that is saying something!

The only two disappointments are the back of the case - which is merely functional and the lack of lume. If I keep wearing the watch as steadily as I have so far I will definitely have the hands seen to.

Without doubt, it's a keeper.

The Citizen Caliber E510 movement is extremely sophisticated. Citizen is known for its advanced quartz movements and the Caliber E510 is one of the best examples of high technology and innovation in a quartz movement.

Interesting, Matt. As far as I can tell, the The Citizen is the same. I believe that there is a separate motor for each hand.
The Citizen movement A660 is quite different from the E 510 movement in the high accuracy Exceed. I've got one of each and although they both have a little flush push-button on the side of the case near the 2, the functions of the crown and the buttons are different. The instructions that came with the Exceed are on a single piece of paper nearly an acre in extent!

If anyone is interested, I'll try to copy it in bits at my local Kinko's and then either post it ir PM it or e-mail it to any interested party who doesn't have one. Just as a starter, though, when you pull the crown out to position 2 on the E 510, the second hand jumps back to 12 so that you can set it without having to wait.

PM me if you want the instructions.

Nice offer, Artec. A person would be lost without the instructions. They're not at all intuitive. This would be very handy for anyone that has lost them. Post them in the References sticky if you would. Thanks! :-!

I have had the Exceed instruction sheet scanned and then e-mailed to myself. It's sitting on my Mac's desktop and I am by no means sure that I can just drag and drop something from there to a post. So before I try to put it in a sticky, I'll try putting it here. If it doesn't work, maybe some-one cleverer than I am could tell me how to post it. Even when it has been posted, if anyone wants to read it, they'll have to pull it off and zoom it because it's so tiny.

Well, that didn't work. Any ideas?
I also have it on a CD if that's any help.

Thanks for the try, Artec! I suppose you're right. That sheet is dauntingly large. The only thing I can think of is to break the pic into pics of each column (say two pics per column) and posting however many separate pics that turns out to be. Bit of a kluge, though, and certainly some serious work. I suppose that most who need the instructions have them, so no big deal if you take a pass.
