Was cleaning out my drawer and found my old ICERC 5600K G-Shock and since it was one of those Tough Solar's, it was obviously deader than a doornail. As you can expect, I couldn't find a CTL1616 battery anywhere so I ordered one from americanperfit.com but being the impatient ass than I am and reading from the forums that a CR1616 would work, I went ahead and put one in and Yippee!!! it works (thanks to the excellent FAQ that was posted on the forums).

Now, I need to know if anyone else has done the same and whether you've noticed any problems? It says on the CR1616 package not to charge so will the watch try to keep charging the battery now and will it blow up on my wrist!!!

So far, one whole day has passed without an explosion. Will it eventually spoil the watch you think? I know, curse me for a fool, but I really wanted to use it. Joining these forums has made G-Shock crazy again and I'm going to dig through my closet to see if I had stashed any of my old G's in there. I know I have a Frogman somewhere, hope it isn't a Tough Solar :-(

WA HA HA HA, I found my old Frogman, WA HA HA HA... no more Frogman envy... It's yellowed and scruffy and battery is dying but thank goodness it isn't a tough solar... Off to the shop for a battery change but first a bath to clean up the gunk.

If you found all that in your drawer, I wonder what you'll find in your wardrobe. Probably Narnia. :-d

Ha ha ha, no Narnia, but found these two poor things, dead battery and no skin left on their pitiful frames. The yellow is marked DW-003, and the purple is DW-002RS.

I remember the DW-002RS looked like this in the link below:
http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u9342357

I liked the yellow DW-003 because it was the one that Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo used to wear.

Oh, well, guess I'll clean this up and store them away since I can't get the bezels for these anymore, unless of course someone here knows how.

So that's it for my closet G-Shock hunting for the day, looks like I'll need to start a new collection soon. Phew! Me very tired but happy...:-!

I recall someone once posting to say that a standard battery in a solar watch was a bad idea.

Can't find the thread, though...

I don't know, I think it'd be like sticking your standard AA alkaline battery in a AA Nickel Metal Hydride charger . . . you're just not supposed to charge un-rechargeable batteries.

Is this the one that Shiggsy used to wear then?

Nice bit of info!
No it was the Dw-0039VT, like mine before the bezel crumbled. I saw him wearing it in a Japanese game magazine at the time the Nintendo 64 was coming out. Here's a picture:
