Found out the hard way that SRP Turtle DLW bezel and LCBI inserts aren't compatible

Had a bad experience over the weekend trying to install an L.C.B.I. "coke" insert in a DLW coin edge bezel on my SRP Turtle. I noticed that the insert did seem to be a little snug and made the mistake of pressing it lightly around the edge on my crystal press (the red screw-down type press). Working carefully and gradually, I did get a good flush fit but a minute or two later, I heard a crack and sure enough, my insert was cracked/damaged at the area where the black and red parts meet.

I contacted LCBI about what had happened and their response was that their inserts are designed for OEM bezels and most aftermarket bezels but they've had other customers notify them about compatibiity issues with DLW bezels, which LCBI says are 0.5mm smaller than most. When I purchased the LCBI insert, I tried to purchase the LCBI coin edge bezel as well but they were out of stock, so I went with DLW where I also got my crystal.

I told LCBI that I would purchase a different brand bezel of their recommendation to avoid a repeat incident but they still won't send a replacement bezel - a 20% discount is their best offer. If DLW bezels are a known compatibility issue, LCBI should publicize this fact on their website. $60 wasted isn't exactly pocket change...

But anyway, since LCBI isn't offering any kind of refund or replacement for the damaged insert, I'll have to go elsewhere for a repacement. Does anyone know if there's truth to the fact that DLW bezels are slightly smaller than others?? If so, that would seem to limit my choices to only DLW inserts? Hope this helps someone else who might be considering this combination of mods.

I'm sorry to hear this. I can confirm that LCBI Turtle inserts will not fit a DLW Turtle bezel. I modded my Samurai (which can use a Turtle bezel) with a new crystal, bezel and insert.

I bought the Turtle bezel from DLW and the insert from LCBI as DLW did not have an insert I wanted. I could not get the LCBI insert to fit. Fortunately, I did not try to force it. Damien at DLW was good to deal with and I sent him measurements. LCBI responded similarly to what you received (their inserts are sized for OEM bezels). In the end, I bought a Turtle coin edge bezel from CrystalTimes and it fit the LCBI insert. Good luck.

I find that sapphire inserts tend to have a slightly larger OD compared to ceramic/ss/aluminum ones. You can lightly sand down the insert until it slides into the bezel with ease. You should really never have to use a press to get the insert in.

It will look really nice once it's sorted and it's good to know because I've could've been in the same situation. I thought I could just buy parts from different modding websites and they would fit without issues. I've always checked DLW, Namoki, LCBI and CT but the only time I bought a bezel and insert were both from CT.

Thanks alot for the responses. If I got another LCBI "coke" insert, that would mean another $50 to LCBI plus having to buy a different brand coin edge bezel, which seems like more $$ and trouble than it's worth. And to be honest, the LCBI lume is so creamy versus the dial lume that I'm having second thoughts whether it was a good choice to begin with. I think I've decided on something more traditional like this from DLW which presumably should fit the DLW bezel:
