For Sale - Superb Longines COSD

The so-called "COSD" was developed in 1944 for the rigors of airborne use by the Research and Development team of the British War Department. They used existing stocks of Longines calibre 12.68N movements and housed them in a specially-designed shock-resistant case made from brass and then nickel plated. Very few were issued during or after the war, making this a rare and most sought-after military collectible.

Details: chrome plated top/stainless steel screw back case with heavy fixed lug bars (35.5mm, British military C.O.S.D. [markings]), oversized crown. excellent signed white dial (original) with painted black numerals and inner 12-24 hour track, luminous markers and hands, center seconds. 16 jewel signed manual wind movement ([caliber 12.68N]), frosted gilt finish (serial #6620XXX serial), British "Company Ordnance Supply Depot" paratrooper's watch, in a special "Tuna Can" case suspending the movement, designed to withstand the rigors of a parachute drop. These watches were used in limited numbers for D-Day and operation Market Garden 1944

This watch was recently serviced (Feb 2007). It sets and runs fine and keeps good time. $2700 shipped and insured anywhere. PayPal preferred.
