Up for sale today is a truly classic chronograph with one of the best automatic winding chronograph movements ever made, the original Zenith El Primero Cal. 400. This is the Zenith El Primero A384 Revival 50th Anniversary Edition, a very faithful recreation of the original A384 El Primero from 1969.
The 37mm case comes in at 12.5mm thick, a benefit of having a movement that was designed from the ground up as a chronograph and not a modular setup. The lug to lug distance is 47mm and has a 19mm lug width. The case features radial brushing on the top from a lapping machine just like the original A384, horizontally brushed sides with a polished bevel, and polished lug faces. This is the 50th Anniversary limited edition of the A384 Revival which was only produced in 2019 for the 50th anniversary of the El Primero. The caseback features the inscriptions "1969-2019" and "50th Anniversary Edition" to denote this. There are some light scratches/hairlines throughout the case, but the watch is in very good condition overall. One thing to note is there are scratches underneath the lugs from strap changes and fitting the bracelet due to the end link design. Nothing that couldn't be polished on the case, though.
The movement needs no introduction, the original Cal. 400 El Primero movement, being near identical to the very first Cal. 3019 PHC. This is a 36000vph high beat column wheel chronograph movement with bidirectional automatic winding. The movement features a variety of finishes including Côtes de Genève, Perlage, satin brushing, beveled edges, blued screws, and black polished screws. This is an extremely accurate movement and under my ownership has never run more than +2 seconds per day. All functions are working perfectly, including the quick change date which snaps to the next day instead of a slower change as time progresses. Zenith pulled out all the stops for this movement, that is of no doubt.
This piece comes as a full kit, double boxed with dealer slip cover, all manuals, warranty card, Zenith paperweight, El Primero advertisement cleaning cloth, red travel case, hang tag, original Zenith crocodile leather strap with Zenith buckle, and the original Zenith ladder bracelet. The bracelet has full links and is currently sized for a 7' wrist. You could easily wear this on a 7.5"+ wrist by putting the spare links back in.
