I am considering my first smartwatch, and narrowed the choice down to a few different varieties of the Garmin Fenix Sapphire 5.

Are the batteries on these watches user-replaceable when they start to deteriorate? Or, is battery replacement otherwise easily done?

Thanks in advance!

Nope.
The battery won't be changed by the user.
It is designed to last 5 years.
Then bye bye....

Well considering the smart/fitness watch is disposable item, therefore you don't need to spend a lot of money on them, unless you have $$$ to burn.

I bought a fenix 5s from sportclub 35% discount. It has such a good battery and it can last more than a week without charging that was included 5 times run with gps. (1hr - 1hr30min/each)
