I owned a Solar Instinct and I returned it due to the HR measurement being too inaccurate for me. I spoke with Garmin's excellent customer support on many occasions and tried a replacement but neither improved my result. I'm are others getting good readings or just not caring about this as the watch is great in so many other ways?

Mine's pretty accurate if I'm just walking around or doing steady state cardio.

It's a bit slow to respond to fast changes in HR so not accurate when doing interval training or lifting weights.

*EDIT: I have the regular Garmin Instinct, not the solar.

Mine is pretty accurate and I use it regularly while exercising. The one exception is when using the rowing machine. For some reason the watch flips out and starts pegging my HR in the 180s.

I can only compare with my previous Garmin sports watches, and my Instinct Solar performs just as well. I never use a chest strap, so I can't tell you how good the Instinct really is. But for judging my relative effort, it is good enough for me.
