Hey guys, if you buy from amazon from a third party who is responsible for any issues? amazon right? I will be purchasing a Tag Heuer Formula 1 GMT or the Calibre 6 with the second sub dial not sure, but the third party dealer is watchmaxx which i've heard some bad things about so a bit scared, thinking of jomashop since i've heard more positive things about them. But in any case I feel that in any problem that I encounter Amazon is fully reliable so I it'll be hassle free for me and amazon is responsible for my refund or what not... If you guys recommend anything please don't hesitate!

I was in your position prior to buying my first nice watch (a Rolex Datejust). I recommend heading over to therolexforum and registering as a member and talking to some really great sellers there. They are so much better than the grey market sites IMHO. They really bend over to get you your timepiece with a fantastic discount off regular retail pricing at superb FedEx speed shipping.

"They really bend over to get you your timepiece" <--------Might wanna rethink this analogy, or add the backwards...

OP, are you specifically worried about servicing/warranty issues, or just the return policy aspect?

If you just have an immediate return, my understanding is that Amazon would always handle that even if the seller is third-party. After the return period, you'd be dealing with watchmaxx.

That MAY be true if the item is "fulfilled by Amazon," but I'd have much less confidence if it is shipped by a third-party seller. I would be wary of an item sold and shipped by a third party unless I knew them or it was an inexpensive purchase in which warranty was of little importance. I once bought an inexpensive Seiko watch from a third-party Amazon seller, and had a hell of a time getting it serviced, ultimately paying out-of-pocket for a watch that, had Amazon sold it, would have been under warranty.

Watch out. "fulfilled by Amazon" and "sold by Amazon" are different. "sold by Amazon" will lead you into the separate issue of "industry-leading warranty" or "manufacturer warranty". Amazon sales offer one or the other. Third-party sales, which may be "fulfilled by Amazon", almost always offer some third-party warranty.

Well, I just placed an order with Jomashop for a watch. Did the whole transaction on line. 10 days later no watch. I call them up and it is on backorder even though they charged my card. I told the guy that they should have listed the watch as on back order so that I would know. I cancelled the order, but not sure if my account has been credited. I think it is good to call them first, any seller, than just doing the online button sale. This has happened several times to me, so I won't be doing the anonymous purchase any more.

I believe there is a third category, below "fulfilled by Amazon" in which the return policy varies from third-party vendor to third-party-vendor, and you have to read the fine print or contact that vendor to know what that return/warranty policy is. "Sold by" or "fulfilled by" purchases are covered by the standard Amazon return policy, which is indeed very friendly to the buyer.

Try authentic watches.com I had a good deal with them, very good service, watch was shipped for free overnight via fedex.
I also got 4 years of warranty

That is correct.

Here are the four scenarios that I have seen, quickly pulled off the website with no particular rhyme or reason.

"Ships from and sold by Amazon.com", "Warranty: S****[manufacturer] Three-Year-Warranty"
"Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.", "Warranty: 2-Year Amazon.com Warranty provided by As****, instead of the manufacturer"
"Sold by De****** and Fulfilled by Amazon", "Warranty: 2-Year Amazon.com Warranty provided by As****, instead of the manufacturer"
"Ships from and sold by S***** J** Watch Shop", "Warranty: 2-Year Amazon.com Warranty provided by As***, instead of the manufacturer."

There's a fifth scenario where the watch ships and is sold by a third party, and their insurance is not the Amazon third-party insurer.
