I'm in the same boat, with a bit higher of a budget. I've been looking at Raymond Weil, particularly their Noemia and Jasmine lines. The Jasmine line is a take-off from Cartier's Ballon Bleu. AAlso check out the Parsfial line. Very dressy and classy watches.
Might get more/better feedback from posting in the ladies forum. I never seem to buy the right item for my wife so next time I am going to ask the ladies that monitor that sub forum.

But for 500-1k maybe a hamilton jazzmaster?
I second the suggestion of posting in the ladies forum. Also, need more info:

Size?
Shape?
Movement?
Crystals?
Bracelet/case material?
Color?

In general Tissot has a lot of nice looking affordable ladies models.
On the off chance you haven't considered these already.... Longines PrimaLuna and Baume & Mercier Linea are really nice looking collections.

Thanks for the suggestions!
My wife did not want an expensive watch. But several years ago I got her a Tag two tone Links. She loves that watch and it is very comfortable. New was $1900. Can probably get one off the internet a little less. I see one on Amazon for $1599 USD (listed as: TAG Heuer Women's WJF1352.BB0581 Two-Tone Link Quartz Watch). Its quarts, but she did/does not want an automatic.

Just a suggestion.
