Hello! I'm new here, and I am a big watch enthusiast I have just recently acquired a antique stop watch from my grandmother, who purchased it probably in 1950-1960. The stopwatch box says the company is "Compass" and that it is "Model 400" however, searching the web brings no results of a company called "Compass". On the face of the stopwatch, it says "1 Jewel" and then below that it says "Anti-magnetic". I opened the watch to re-lubricate the 1 jewel, re-adjust the spring and polish the pieces. On the inside of the back pop-off case, it says "Capt&co" with "Swiss" underneath it.
On the movement, it has the same "Compass" logo, along with "Instrument and Optical Co." it also says the jewels again and "unadjusted". There are some numbers: there is two letters "BF" that are circled with an arrow, the arrow pointing counter clockwise. Underneath this "BF" is "795", possibly the movement number. I'll post them if someone needs them. From the look of it, it looks to be a 1/10th second stopwatch, now that I have it working again. I will include some pictures of the stopwatch, and its cardboard box in the post, as well. Its a very beautiful piece of machinery, and I would love to know more about the company who created it, and how much it is worth. Here are the pictures of the box and stopwatch itself, along with a picture of the movement:

Does anyone know if this should be posted in the vintage section? If so, could a moderator or someone of power move it there? I'd hate to take-up bandwidth and post the same topic in another section.

Thank you!

BF 795 is a term used for a Baumgartner movement (pic shows a BF 417 stopwatch movement of another Conpass stop watch). No idea on value but I wouldn´t expect much.

Interesting posts! I have not delved much into stop watches but I would assume a one jeweled one did not represent the state of the art.

As we don't issue valuations of watches (see the post in the stickies as to why)... valuing stop watches would be well beyond anything we would even think of attempting.

But I will say eBay has had some auctions of fine pieces that went for relatively modest prices.

So I suspect you need not itemize it on your homeowners insurance policy...

Thank you for the feedback! The value was not my number one concern. My apologies, I should have made that more clear. I do know that it is in very good condition, only some scratches on the back. (My grandmother was a teacher, used it to time in her classes.) Interesting piece of history I just learned was that my father used it in medical school as well! Now that I've refurbished it, maybe I'll take it with me to college! :-!

Thanks for your interests, guys!
