Hey all,

I currently own an Orient Mako which I absolutely love. I don't have the biggest of wrists and it fits really well, looks great and keeps really good time. I've tried to track down the dimensions but I'm not entirely sure as to whats the important dimensions amd what range I'm restricted to.

Orient Men's CEM65001B 'Black Mako' automatic Dive Watch

I have always been keen to get an upgrade and my future wife to be is keen to get me a new diver as a wedding present. I originally looked at the Omega Seamaster but the automatic was a bit out of price range and after having looked at other options have realised there is a lot more out there and a lot more out there at more affordable prices.

My criteria is pretty simple:

- under £500 (around $750);
- has to look fantastic (personal opinion I suppose) and suits being worn to work;
- fit well - which probably means having good returns policies incase it doesnt;
- have a saphire crystal; and
- nice automatic movement - ETA would be nice but happy to accept Miyota.

I have no requirement for the watch to be waterproof to any set metres as I will more than likely never use the watch as a proper diver. I just really love the diver style and have only ever owned divers.

Some of the watches I currently have been looking at are:

Davosa Argonautic - £545 (slightly over budget but still)

Boschett Ocean Mariner - $595

Just wanted to know if you had:

(1) any thoughts on my selections and which would suit my criteria best;
(2) what were the important items of spec to consider; and
(3) if you had any further suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I have the Ocean Military Vintage, it's absolutely stunning, with a great lume, nice vintage indexes and hands, no data and a beautiful domed sapphire!
You can't go wrong with it :)

Hi JM & congrats on the impending nuptials!
It seems this particular watch is going to be something with a very personal attachment...Aside from the watches your already looking at,go through the daily WRUW threads for the last few days...Certain watches will speak to you,they will draw you back to them over & over...The dial,the case curves,the lume,everything just seems right...
I suggest you go to the Orient Watch USA site & get the dimensions for the Mako you have...This will be your gauge as to what size watches will fit you best....If your going to be wearing it with a suit I suggest staying away from anything over about 15mm in thickness & if the Mako fits good around 42mm case size...Good luck...

I really like the ovm. One thing that worries me though is that it may be too big lug to lug. Think its 50mm compared to 46.5mm on the mako.
...
How does the Mako fit?Can you post a wrist shot?

What about the Halios Laguna?

- Works very well with a suit (and any other garment you want to wear, one of the most versatile divers around)
- Costs $755 shipped
- Great, wide, well AR'ed flat sapphire
- ETA 2824-2 well regulated.
- Comes in with bracelet and a genuine isofrane rubber strap.
- WR to 500 with internal bezel manoeuvred by a non screw down crown...
- Very distinctive, and not something you'll see on loads of wrists around you, for sure (or anything that might look similar).

Hi JM...Your Mako has a 41mm case with short lugs so I'ld say most 42mm's will be boarderline too big....I would think the OWC would fit real nice...You'll have to email them to confirm but I believe the differences are the dial type,hand style,lume & dial color...

Thanks the Ocean is a very nice watch - not too sure around the logo but watch is exactly what I want.

Can you think of any others like the OWC?

Helson SD FTW... Doesn't quite feel like you are wearing a Rolex hommage. Great watch for the price!

Ollech and Wajs is one I looked at but you dont seem to get much options in styles. With already having the Mako, I'm keen to get something even just slightly different hence the Ocean Marine Vintage being one of my options. Really like the Orange so it may be a goer.
