I have my mind made up to get a submersible Panerai - and cannot decide between the 25 and 243!! I (locally) found a 24 and a 243 to try on today - and after trying both on still cannot make up my mind. I know the 24 is not a 25 but the size/shape is similar.

I like how chunky the 243 looks - but worry that the 'height' of it might be too much for daily use? The 243 seemed more 'unique' to me. The 24 was gorgeous in person - but I like the Ti finish better, but prefer the weight of steel. I have never seen a 25 in person - should I wait to do that to make up my mind?

OH I should ad that I do NOT have big wrists - so worry that the 243 might look a bit out of place on my hand being how tall it is. I took pictures of both - suggestions on what you guys think?

I am planning on picking up a submersible - and (99% certain) the PAM 177 as well. These 2 will be my initial venture into the Panerai world. Thoughts / opinions?

Judging from the looks alone i like the 24 better. It looks more refined (tried one myself a couple of months ago, was very excited about it) and especially the bezel is very nice.

Judging from usability in terms of "daily use" you should go with the smaller one - the 24.

Judging from usability in terms of "tool watch"/"diver" you should go with the over-spec´d 243: HEV, 1000m WR, chunkier ...there will be hardly a chance you will need to make use of the HEV, unless you are going for a multi-million-dollar-dive-expedition-sort-of-thing --- same goes with the 1000m WR - but hey. you will be prepared, if things get as tough :D

Judging from my personal perspective: go with the 24 rather than 25 - the cobble-stone-dial looks strange. plus: you should not go with the 305 - too big for your wrist.

the 243 wins my Heart. love the chunky 1950 Case.
i think both look great . however, if you feel that the 243 is too Thick ? (and that will Change after wearing it for a few days) i'd suggest to wait and try on the 25 before you make your Big Purchase.

best of luck

Personally I'll skip both and go for 239 because it has no date and cyclops LOL

Back to topic,I'd suggest you try 25 and possibly 64 as well,if you ask me why 64? Because it has 44mm case,1000m wr and blue dial with white/silver seconds subdial, personally I like 64 because it is less common, but it has more limited strap options due to the dial color

While you're at it,try the 305,389 as well, you may end up liking these models

Personally I don't like the hobnail dial on 25 and 569

Thank you for all that contributed - I dont think there is a 'wrong' way to go , and one can always be added on / switched out for another.

I am leaning more towards the 243 - as the 24/25s comparatively seem like a 'squished down' version of the 243 if that makes any sense. Trying on the 24 after I tried on the 243, the 243 just feels a bit more 'grown up' and masculine. I like the heft of the 243 as well. BUT thats not to say that I still do not love looking at pictures of 25s online and admiring each and every single one of them :)

AND I also plan on getting the 177 - so I feel like the 243 is more of a change from the 177 then the 25 would be.

The 24 is out of the question because I do not like any part of the watch 'polished' like the 24 is - unless its a dress watch to be worn with suits, business attire, etc. Will keep everyone posted on my final decision and hopefully soon future acquisition !!!

If you like 243,go for it,I had a chance to play a bit with my 24 and 92 earlier today, and I just noticed that the bezel on both models have a bit of play,I spoke to the person in the AD here and in several boutiques and they said it is the characteristics of the bezel-ed 44mm luminor case in ss

243 will compliment the 177 nicely as both are different,25 have the same case material and you might find the combination of 177 and 25 to be too grey

And once you get both,I'd suggest the 292 or 384...so you get a luminor-1950-rad trio in three different materials LOL

Between those two I'd go with the 243, the 1950 case has great visual balance. I personally own the 305 and think it has the perfect ratio of bezel, to case, to dial size, to hand size. The 389 is the same although with the ceramic bezel. I went with the 305 for the more historical look. BTW, I had a small wrist too, don't be afraid.

Both are 44mm, but the PAM 025 is lighter and almost 4mm thinner. If you're going to pull off a 44mm with smallish wrists, the 025 is the better option IMO.
