I am slowing down my rate of purchase so the purchase is planned for 1-5 years from now but I need some help in identifying a goal to work towards.

Some requirements
  • Watch has to be a modern take on a classic design
  • Not necessary a dive watch but it has to have some sort of a bezel
  • Between 38-41mm
  • No Date or Date at 6.
  • 100m WR or more.
  • Not considering a watch with complications at the moment but willing to consider a chronograph.
  • Quality of fit and finish has to be between Rolex to JLC's level or better.
I have identified these two as potential choices but I would like to know if there are others with that meet the requirements.

Jaeger LeCoultre Tribute to Deep Sea Alarm - Limited issue so it is rather rare to source for one.

Rolex Submariner 114060 - Slightly too common.

Appreciate your inputs :-!

I love that jlc. The Sub doesn't do much for me.

both are solid choices and you can't go wring with either. the JLC is the less beaten path choice and the rolex is the mainstream chouce. personally i'd get the sub.

If you want a diver, any variation of the JLC Deep Sea is definitely the way to go if you want to have a unique retro cool piece.

The JLC is at least two classes above the current Submariner, more refined, more elegant, more watch.

The Rolex Explorer comes to mind as a candidate. 39mm, no date, 100m water resistance, and history in spades.

I think it is nice alternative but it would be a little too close to the Speedmaster Pro.
Ah just saw in your signature you have the speedy pro, didn't realize that before.

Rolex Submariner is more then a watch, its an institution of its own, its probably one of the most copied watch in the world.
Its the watch that set the standard to so many other watches.

I would choose the Sub over the JLC any day of the week.
I LOVE my Sub, its a great all around watch, its fun and serious, its not too big and not too small, its classy and respected.
I think its the watch that needs to be in any serious watch collector collection!!!

Get the Sub!!!

Tudor Black Bay? Obviously, the movement is not even close to on par with the first two watches you mentioned, but you get that Sub heritage but with some fun twists. Someone recently tried to entice me with one of these and it was challenging to do the financially responsible thing.
