Patek is about so much more than the Nautilus and Aquanaut. They make some of the best, absolutely stunning and complicated watches.

Got to try these on at AP in Atlanta, which I learned is run in conjunction with Watches of Switzerland. It’s interesting, most AP stores I go into are very formal, some appointment only, and usually there’s literally nothing to try on even if there are some watches on display. For example, I was recently in Zurich and went into the AP store. Staff was friendly enough but asked if I had an appointment even though no one else was in the store, and it’s a huge store. There were 4 or 5 people working there and 4 or 5 watches on display, but they don’t allow you to try them on.

On the flip side, this very small AP store in the middle of the mall here in Atlanta was extremely welcoming, let me try on the gold 43mm ROO they had, and also had 10 or so (what they called) vintage Royal Oaks for sale! I tried on a few which was great because it really helped me understand how these wear on the wrist. I thought I would love a Jumbo, but I think it’s just too small for me. It would look fine, but just felt a bit dainty. I think part of that was because this one was from like 1985 though and they just weren’t built like they are nowadays.

Also tried on a 41mm and absolutely love this white dial in person. I think it’s a better size for me too.

Last was the yellow gold 40mm which was also awesome. I would love to own an all yellow gold model someday, I just wish they would do the rotor in matching yellow gold instead of rose gold.

Here they are:

Tried these on today as well. The 43mm chronographs are cool, but I just don’t know why they did the logo the way they did. It just looks like a blob to me and I wish it were like on other models where all you see is the applied AP. Very minor thing, but at this price point I’m looking at very minor things.

Everyone's different. I personally like the printed branding (atop guilloche - that area of the dial is, in fact, not flat) with the applied AP logo. I don't mind the cleanliness of the "new" applied logos spelling out Audemars Piguet, but I just have a soft spot for the AP logo itself. It's just cool.

You can rock that offshore pretty well though - wish I could!

After chasing a Parris daCosta Hayashima "Konpeki" at a few auctions since about 2019 or so, I finally landed one (and at a huge discount - last one went for around $11.5K with buyers' premium, this one went for just a bit more than half of that). I think I lucked out quite a bit with the economic scares, etc. Either way, glad to finally add it to my collection. The dial work is unreal. The hand-brushing of the dial to create this grained effect (with silver powder) is truly a sight to behold.

Even the box it comes in is absolutely sublime (I should get a picture of it tomorrow). I have it off of the stock strap right now since the stock strap is a handmade alligator strap. Very lovely and ultra-supple, but too dressy for me for the most part. Will definitely put it back on it for work events, etc. though.
