The Kai Chiu Glashütte Original boutique is located in the bustling prime shopping area of Hong Kong's Causeway Bay and moved to this location just in time for the 2015 Chinese New Year in February.  This boutique is certainly in the Top 3 Glashütte Original boutiques along with its Tokyo and Dresden counterparts. Hong Kong in general is a large watch consumer market—and even the taxi driver is wearing a Ref. 1680 and tells you so!

Watchuseek was welcomed by Mr. Gilbert Ho, Vice President of Glashütte Original for Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan, who was accompanied by a young and very knowledgeable staff.  Gilbert is a Hong Kong native and a watch enthusiast as well.

The popularity of the Glashütte Original  brand is on the rise in China.  There are two main reasons – first due to enactment of anti-gifting policy in China, the very high-end brands suffered, therefore brands which provide more value-for-the-money, like Glashütte Original, are now on the rise.  Second, even though Glashütte Original brand recognition is relatively low among the Chinese (unlike Rolex and Panerai), Glashütte Original is putting in lot of effort to increase brand awareness with events, marketing campaigns, and social media.

The boutique has a unique, beautiful ceiling with the mirror-polished movement upon entrance.  In fact, it is the Calibre 37 which was launched in Basel 2014.  While it was not a surprise that best seller is the Glashütte Original  PanomaticLunar, PanoReserve, and the Senator Automatic, we noted that there were not many “boutique” editions, which we believe will be changing very shortly across all the Glashütte Original boutiques!

If you are in Hong Kong and have a few hours to spare, do visit the Glashütte Original  boutique; and if you happen to see Gilbert, ask him for his restaurant recommendation – he is a foodie and will recommend only the best in Hong Kong.
