How do I contact a seller to purchase their watch?

I’m new to Watchuseek. I found this site because I did a search for a watch I wanted to buy and one was offered for sale by a member here. I joined, but when I go to the thread for the watch I get the message “You have insufficient privileges to reply here.” Do I have to wait 3 months and post 100 times to be able to buy a watch here? I do love the site. I’ve already stumbled upon two new watches that I love (and want).

I hate to waste people’s time if the answer is obvious, but I’ve tried searching how to buy for the first time and I can’t find any information. Thanks for the help...

It only took me a couple days of normal posting activity to be able to send a PM (called "conversation" here). Just hang around the forum a bit and participate in a few discussions that interest you and you will have it enabled in no time. Be careful, however, not to "speed post" (just posting randomly for the sake of upping your post count) as this is against the forum rules.

WUS is a watch discussion forum first and foremost, with a sales forum bolted on the side.

Participate for a while and then you might be able to gain access to the sales section, if not there are a myriad of watch sales sites.

There is an unidentified number of posts in the fora that, when achieved will allow you to pm other members. I don't know what it is, it may be different for each new member but it is not a large number. Find a few threads that interest you, ask questions, comment and you will be able to pm members.

These are all good responses to your question.

I found this confusing at first as well, but respect WUS for having this as a clear unique selling point compared to other sites simply focused on sales alone. First comes the trust, then comes the potential for a sale to grow or thin your collection (which, let’s be honest, is to also fund future collection growth). I also find, in my limited exposure to the site so far, that there’s less price gouging compared to other watch and P2P sites, which likely stems from that member to member respect. It’s community first, which is refreshing.

Thank you to everyone who responded so quickly. I got it now and I do appreciate that the original purpose of this site is sharing and discussing watches. If it weren’t for the private sellers’ component of WuS, I would have probably never stumbled upon it. There are so many cool watches out there.

Don't feel bad. When they switched over to new software/formatting I could not figure out how to send a message as the previous format said I think "Send a Message" which to me was much more straight forward than "Start a Conversation"

Start a conversation sounds a lot like starting a discussion thrread than sending a private message. Is it me or is the plain meaning of a word as people understood it prior to 2013 or so no longer what things mean now?

Also the previous format had a button that said "Edit" e.g. to edit one's post; It took me several months to click on the STUPID 3 vertical dots which showed "EDIT"

The millenial/Gen Z mind likes these heiroglyphic communication menthods, but I actually prefer actual words and the English language on websites. Silly me!

Thanks for the response.
Seems that WUS doesnt want me to buy this watch :)

nonetheless, I suppose it has forced me to join the forum and contribute and participate, which isnt a bad thing as I have read reviews here for years.
Granted I am a Seiko, Casio and Citizen fan looking to mature my watch style.

Same problem on my end -- hoping to message a seller but it seems there is an arbitrary post minimum to gain PMing privileges? I suppose it's to stimulate discussion, which it has certainly achieved here.

Same situation here - I am trying to buy a watch but can't PM since I'm a new member. I am starting to post and reply to pages and hopefully the watch is not gone by the time I am able to send the seller a message.

In the same boat, just found a beautiful Orient that a gentleman is selling but I am completely new to the site and have zero way to contact him about it. Cannot seem to find the PM button past the profile either.

Takes time to contribute to the conversation before you can participate in the buying and selling of watches. While I wish I could jump on the opportunity to purchase a few watches that I have seen, I understand and respect the idea that it’s about community first.
