I was looking at the Paketa 24 hrs posted recently. The next watch I want should be unique so I'm still waiting for the right one.

Looking at the dial, it seems to me that the readings are in increments of 10 minutes. Is that correct? If so, there's no way I can tell if I'm gonna be late for my train or for class.

The minute and second hands are the same as regular watches, no problem there. The only difference is the hour hand which goes around the dial once every 24 hours, rather than twice: when it points up it's midnight, points down it's midday, and when it is anywhere on the right of the dial it's AM, on the left it's PM.

Hope this helps!

I got it. I assumed that the minute markers were also the hour makers. Didn't see the difference. I might buy one if I get a good price on ebay. I also check taobao and found one for $40. That's not worth it.

Prices of the 24-hour Raketa seems to be rising, but you might get lucky too. There was/is a big seller in the US with a huge stock of NOS "hammer and sickle" and a particular style of 24-hour watches, I got one of each (as did several members), and the seller claimed that they should be assumed as faulty. My hammer and sickle actually works very well, not so the 24-hour, but I will consult my watchmaker soon :)

pcke2000, the jury is still out! The watches are packaged in blister packs with cardboard slide-out backing, and what appears to be a rather genuine-looking warranty paper, but any dork with access to a beat-up Gestetner can print those.

I bought them for the purpose of trying to see if they were the real deal, but I ended up not being able to tell for certain. The "hammer and sickle" works well and looks good, the hour and minute hands are gilt while the second hand is painted white. Officially all these hands are yellow painted but of course, variations during production of any model can occur, and the gilding on the hands does not look amateurish at all.

The 24-hour model with the rotating scale for the second hand has been talked about before in an earlier thread and we could not come to any definite conclusion either. The most likely scenario is that they were made by Raketa during that particularly chaotic period where nobody in the factory seemed to know what they're doing, but this theory only led the others by a nose.
