This just showed up in my FB feed. Timex Marlin Automatic. I'm really liking the look, especially the dial color, and how they've done the 3-6-9-12 markers! It's on my wish list now!

Yeah, it is a nice looking watch - came across it myself a few months back (could have been the version without lume).

Wonder if Giorgio Galli also had some design inputs on this one ...

I actually like the extra blank space on the dial on this 40mm. 2mm more makes it less cluttered. Not that this was ever a problem with the Marlins!

I really want to see one of these in person to see how that Olive green sunburst looks in different lighting.

This picture shows the sunburst a little better.

Very much a different color than my other Marlin. May it's just the gold along with the green.

That's a good question. I would think so. He's been the creative director at Timex since 2013. Most people in that kind of position are heavily involved in the design process. The current Marlins are based off a Timex automatic from the 1960s, so this model was probably updated from an original and put into a modern size.

What movement does it use? Most of the newer Timex Marlin style watches use the Miyota 8215 - but this one doesn't have a date. Why no sapphire crystal? You can buy $90 Aliexprs watches now with NH35 movements and sapphire crystals... c'mon!

Market forces will slowly change this. The big boys have been comfortable cashing checks selling up to $700 watches with mineral/hardlex/etc for years. I understand this in a vintage inspired watch or maybe a pilots watch, but sapphire is objectively better in almost every way….and it’s not expensive ($20 more than mineral)

As Aliworld and the like become more widely accepted and improve their security reputations; more and more will go their first to look. It’s already starting to happen outside the bargain hunter enthusiast consumer spheres.

….and the Ali companies are making more and more original watches with these superior specs as consumers are developing less and less brand loyalty.

I wish it wasn't so... I would prefer to see companies just take the high road and not be 'forced' to do so after the fact - especially because, as you pointed out - in many cases, by the time they react, the horses have already left the barn and been sold elsewhere.

I do think this Timex is a nice looking watch, and interesting. I just wish they were setting themselves up for more success and a broader market, with sapphire crystals and more aggressive pricing.
