I am considering buying a Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Automatic 42mm (blue) dial. The reference is: H70545140. This watch retails for $1,195.00 USD. The reviews I've read are good except for the lack of AR coating. What do you think of the watch compared to others in its price category?

I'm wearing my original Khaki Field Auto today.

I actually really like this new version in titanium with the blue dial. It's a bit of a jazzed up version of a watch that's already well known for being a well built timeless design icon from a respected brand. If you like it go for it.

Nice watch, but I’d go for the 38 on leather. I think field watches should be neither oversized, nor on metal bracelets.

But the stainless steel versions have the nasty date hole (which also displaces the 15 numeral). That alone makes the titanium superior.

I like the khaki field, wear it often, and that’s a great-looking blue.

This has a 44mm case and was sold on leather; i bought a bracelet for it so I wouldn’t trash the leather from sweat in our steamy summers. Mastersintime sold the Hamilton bracelet for this watch for about $120. (This was a gift from my spouse; i steered her to a grey market site that sold it for about 40% off the retail price. It arrived spotless and has run well, so I’m glad she didn’t buy it from an authorized dealer).

You can buy the black dial version of the 42mm titanium you’re looking at on leather for about $700 on the grey market. Didn’t see the blue dial version, but I’m guessing it’s floating around for at least 20-30% less than retail.

I’m not familiar with this watch. Is it grade 2 or 5 titanium, and if it’s grade 2, do they use a hardening treatment? I wear a number of titanium watches, and if grade 2 doesn’t have some kind of surface hardening, it’s more prone to dings and marks than most steel watch cases. [grade 5 titanium is quite hard, more like steel). If a few marks on the case are OK with you, it’s a non-issue, and field watches, my opinion, look better when it’s clear they’re being worn, lived-in. If some surface wear might bother you, and Hamilton doesn’t use a hardening treatment, it’s something you may want to consider.

Hamilton is a great brand and I've owned more than a few over the years but $1195.00 is way too much. Even with a discount it's too much.
In that price range you can get a Sinn, Damasko or many other better watches.

EDIT: Forget what I said about Sinn. I haven't checked the Watchbuys website in a while but did so today. I was surprised to see that the least expensive 104 now retails for $1640.00. And that's on leather.

It's a solid watch. I have a stainless steel 42mm version and love it. I think it's tremendous value for the price, really.

The lack of anti-reflective coating really isn't an issue except for when you're trying to photograph it (there's a glare/shadow in every photo). But when it comes to straight-up visibility/legibility, it's fine.

Not a fan of full/partial/quasi-sunburst dials, but otherwise I'd buy anything Hamilton.

More I look at it the more I want the bracelet for mine.
They are very nice, given the price catagory of this brand. Solid, excellent claps, and best of all most are all brushed as opposed to polished, or at least polished center links, which IMHO is always a good thing.
