Well, I did it. I've been thinking about ordering one of these for about a year now and finally decided to make it happen. The main thing that made me do it now was seeing all of my other stainless watches getting scratched up from being worn to work and around town every day. It will be nice having something that will (should) stay pretty much scratch free and slow down the aging process for my other more sensitive pieces.

Anyway, I'm a little curious as to other owner's opinions on the watch, especially those who have had it for a while. I know most of the reviews I've seen online are surprisingly very positive (considering the price range and short history of this brand) but have noticed the hype and review-consistency die down a bit and wanted to see if long term owners' opinions have held up in the long term.

Either way, I'm very excited to finally have one on the way. The silver dial and red accents are just awesome. Oh, and I can't wait to drag a screwdriver across this thing, probably laughing like a mad man as I do it. :-x

:-!

This one REALLY interests me!!! It looks great AND tungsten!!! Looks like a winner to me!!!:-!

You need to do a review when you get it, I am curious to see how the build quality is.....And how well the tungsten holds up!!! It shouldn't scratch or ding!!!:-!

Came by Priority shipping today.... Arrived in 3 days including a Sunday shipped FL to MA. That's how to earn positive feedback b-) :-!

Had to drop it off at the jeweler to get it resized. They didn't have the "tool" at the store so have to send it to the... what was it?.. Watchmaker? Anyway, the links are held together with screw-in pins which have screw heads at both ends and it will take a week and a day to come back.

:-(

I've read a few horror stories about removing these pins but nothing about the ones in the Tungsten models. We will see.

First impressions:

1. The watch looks better in person than in pictures online. This thing just shines.

2. The soda bottle bezel is awesome. They left the numbering and hash marks with a rough-to-the-touch finish which makes a great natural contrast.

3. I have a 45mm Stanless Steel Citizen 2100 that I thought was heavy. This thing feels twice as heavy, no lie. I like heavy watches but after wearing it for a few minutes you're definitely not used to the weights change. I can only assume I won't notice it within a few hours. In the end I think I like it because it doesn't look like a big bulky, heavy watch. To me it just feels like "compact quality", which is the best I can explain that. |>

4. Fingerprints.

Overall I really like what I've seen so far. Really anxious to get it back and wear it around.

More to come.....

WHAT?! the jeweler probably got it sized after you left and will wear it for the whole week o|

Btw, congratulations on the arrival of such a beautiful watch.. photos soon?:-d

Nice find, I'm curious how heavy. You might want to swap it back and forth between your arms, otherwise one forearm will get much larger than the other from lifting the weight.

Isn't the only tool needed a small screwdriver? Or perhaps 2 depending on the type of screws? I'm confused.

They said to remove the screws you need to hold one side steady and turn the head of the screw on the other. They tried using 2 screwdrivers to do it but couldn't get it to work. This was at a Kay Jewelers. I wasn't happy about it but didn't want to risk taking it somewhere else just to have to wait another few days.

I have had both the white and black dials of the Swiss Legends Tungsten Chronograph Diver. I got them both during WOW's Deal of the Day at $169 shipped as I did not know which dial I would like better in person. I ended up selling the white dial as the black dial looked sharper to me. The black blended slightly better with the darker sheen of the Tungsten, plus the black dial had a feel of the 2008 Tag Heuer F1 Indy 500 which I did not have at the time and wanted. I have since bought the TAG, but both are still different enough from each other with the 41mm vs. 45mm size difference, Tungsten vs. SS, etc. Both dials were very sharp though!
I am probably not a good one to ask about wear as I am very careful with my watches and do not bang or drag them around, but the watch still looks new after 6 months. Don't do the screwdriver test! Tungsten CAN be scratched, and I have seen several pics to prove it. It is just much more difficult to scratch than SS due to its density. I believe with all the links, the watch weighs 350 grams - if I remember right. It plays smaller than 45mm due to the wide and tapering bezel and narrow case unlike the 45mm Swiss Legend Commander which has a very tall case with a flat bezel which plays too large for me.
Don't forget that this watch also has a Sapphire Crystal and a dual push button deployment clasp to boot. You get A LOT for the money with this watch, plus Tungsten watches are not everywhere and draws compliments as well. I sized mine myself without much issue, but you do have to work on the screws a bit as they have a little something in them to keep tight.

I have a tungsten wedding band and it looks as nice as it did the day I got it. Keep in mind that I am an archaeology student, so I spend a lot of time in the dirt. And hiking. And doing assorted other things that ruin jewelry. Well worth the money.

For what it's worth, I changed the double screw links on my Artego at home using a small screwdriver and a pocket knife blade. Well, until I found my other screwdrivers. Then I just used two of them.

Enjoy the watch, I've been eying them myself.

Hey, I just got one of these today myself! :-d

I was tired too but I have been after Tungsten for soooo long that when it finally arrived, I made myself go through with the bracelet adjustment. I'm wearing this tomorrow!

You know what.. if you like to wear your watch loose then adding in a half-link is an okay idea. If you don't like it loose (like me) then you probably need it very tight. Yeah - it's heavy - and it'll shake loose unless it's clamped tight. And in fact, it is so heavy that even clamped tight I know it will STILL shake loose, if you're jogging or something.
RATS, the one disadvantage of tungsten. Oh well. It's cool.

To adjust the bracelet: take two fine screwdrivers that will each fit on the screw heads, and turn each counter-clockwise. Take note what pulls out toward the crown side, the screw or the tube. Reassemble that same way. I had 3 screwdrivers go bad on me, all 3 went into the trash. Luckily I have more than a couple sets of jeweller's screwdrivers.

Oh and by the way, on the dial I figured out what 1351 and 1251 mean: the 1s are actually lines and the numbers are marking 25, 30, and 35 minute position. Doh!

Took a few shots.

I also did a weight comparison with my Citizen 2100. Based on size alone these watches are very similar. The Swiss Legend has a 45mm face which is 14mm thick and a 21mm wide bracelet which is 9.25" long. The Citizen has a 46mm face which is 15mm thick with a 23mm wide and 8.25" bracelet. So overall volume is generally very similar.

Overall the Swiss Legend is 63% heavier than the similar Citizen. Of course, the major differences between the watches besides Tungsten vs SS are the Japanese vs Swiss movement, the solar component plus battery vs the quartz battery, and a mineral vs a sapphire crystal.

I'd love to see a comparison with more similar watch (same size and both swiss quartz with sapphire).

I'm going to wear the Swiss Legend for a week or so and post my thoughts. So far, I'm extremely happy!

Thanks!

I have not done the screwdriver test....

Why?

YOU WANT ME TO TAKE A SCREWDRIVER TO THIS THING AND TRY TO SCRATCH IT?? Who had that ridiculous idea in the first place? :rodekaart

;-)

That Citizen was the watch that got the most wrist time before the SL and I really have no desire to wear it at all. Hopefully that will come back because I do love the 2100 but when comparing them side by side the Citizen's bracelet makes it look more 'sport-industrial' to me whereas the SL looks more 'museum refined'. If the Tungsten really stays nearly new looking after a few months I will definitely be getting another one, probably black (thanks Jason586).

I was a bit worried that the all-polished look would either be too gaudy for the office or look more like painted plastic than metal (I had a brushed SS prejudice) but I can't say enough about how much I like it, the bracelet just as much as the case and bezel. When I put them side by side the SS, being a lighter shade of silver, looks cheap. This is also my first diver-style piece and the bezel numbering is such a perfect, low key contrast that it looks dressy and sporty at the same time IMO. I've gotten 4 compliments on it since Tuesday afternoon, not that anyone cares about that kind of thing :-d

Ok that's it for now.

Same with me - I had a great experience with mine today. I slid it a little more down my wrist so it wasn't clamped on so tight, and it held its position pretty good all day long and wasn't uncomfortable to wear. The shine of tungsten + sapphire is awesome! The surfaces pick up fingerprints pretty easily though. That's okay, I made sure to keep it polished up all day long. :)

I started the day with a meeting at 9am and the usual big divers in attendance looked positively puny and drab in comparison. My wrist is 7.25" so it doesn't look so disproportionately large, luckily. I wouldn't want to wear it if it had a "clown" appearance, that's for sure.

I'm with a lunchtime jogging group, and we went out today and it was my turn to keep time, which I did using the chronograph. The watch held its position! That was my biggest concern with this mighty watch, how it might flop around while running.

Scratches - you don't need to be so careful with tungsten, but it can be scratched. Dust and grit can contain particles of garnet and ruby and other very hard particles that will cause scratches. That said, I did put a mechanics steel ruler against one of the links -- but I couldn't do it. Yeah, it would probably slide, but I really don't want to mar it deliberately.

I have a friend who also has a tungsten ring, and he's put metal files and drill bits against it without ever getting a mark - and then one day he found a scratch on it, with no clue where it came from.

Tungsten is Awesome!!! :-!

I bought one of these Tungsten Swiss Legends for my father who is a Chef. He demolishes watches working in them. You should see the Tag he has. He used to wear a Rolex 18K Yellow Gold President in the kitchen when I was a kid. I have that watch now and it has a lot of little dents and dings which give it character, to me at least.

Back to the SL. My dad has worn the watch for 6 months now and it is in perfect condition. His gets pretty greasy and fingerprints easily, but with a nice wash in the sink with a toothbrush it looks like brand now. He loves the watch.

Swiss Legend makes an Automatic version of this watch which I am waiting to buy from WOW. It has the Claro Semag CL-888 movement in it. I know there is a lot of debate about this movement, but I have it in a Zodiac Oceanaire and it runs wonderfully. Right now they list for $499 but are on sale for 299 quite often. When they hit the under $250 mark I will be picking on up.

What is not to love about a nice looking watch that you can toss around and not worry about the occasional, oops I hit a doorknob or oops I bumped into a car mirror. I know that when I do that in my Rolex or other nice watches I get a real sick feeling in my stomach.

Mine gets smudgy too, I just give it a quick polish with my shirt sleeve or whatever now & then. It smears the smudge around so it 'disappears' :-d

To me it's a happy thought that the tungsten+sapphire will remain a smudge magnet for practically forever!

Speaking of which it occurs to me that, you know that gunk that builds up on watches and bracelets especially? That's nothing but a whole lot of accumulated smudge. Bleah! :rodekaart
