The Japan and Asia sites make no mention of it. Several owners seemed to confirm it is not STN in another thread. Appears not to be STN in photos from owners. Also, the description in these links say "The GMWB5000BC-1B incorporates a super illuminator LED light and solar battery – rendering it capable of self-charging, as well as a special STN LCD." The watch is mislabeled as GMWB5000BC-1B when it should be GWB5600BC-1B. First part of the sentence is obviously wrong. I imagine the last part could be wrong too if the copywriter is thinking of and researching this as a GMW-B5000 model.

Mistakes like this are not too uncommon in international, non-Japan, Casio sites. Display is not STN in that lineup.

I have both and I if it is STN or not - normally I can not see a difference only in the dark when you use the light - from a certain point of angle the GMW-B5000 is MUCH better than the GW-B5600 ...

STN display has noticeable off-angle color shift (when viewed from in front). Digits on left and right of screen are different color to center (have a purple or blue tint).
When viewed up close with 2 eyes, each eye sees different color for each digit/segment, giving the digits a weird sheen and lack of color uniformity.

You can see it very obviously in pictures and in person.

This is the price you pay for advantage of STN. But it makes it very easy to identify a STN display.

It just sucks; if this watch actually had an STN display, I'd have bought this already instead of questioning whether or not I want it. I'll still probably buy it if I can sell my luminox and just hold out hope Casio will release a resin version of the 5000...
