Depends what is meant by purebred of course. I may not be thinking along the right lines, but for me the lack of a proper second hand weakens it in my eyes.

Nice watch, out of my price range I also saw the Oceana 2000 and that one is probably more wearable. Also, what is it with 'polycarbonate' crystal??? I would imagine sapphire are the hardest and most 'scratch-proof' and therefore most used crystals in dive watches above $500... Maybe I'm missing something.

BTW, what a 'poor', and I'm sure unintentionally, chosen brand name for the English speaking market: PITA Does it have any meaning in Spanish or Catalan, anybody?

The thead's actually quite ironic, for English speakers anyways, since you ask if it's the most "purebred" diver, and "pita" is a type of flatbread.

I think though, that why rich was referring to it as being "a 'poor', and I'm sure unintentionally, chosen brand name for the English speaking market" is the fact that PITA is a very widely used acronym for "Pain in the a--" ;-)

It is a nice looking watch, but it strikes out for the lack of a second hand (the spinny pinwheel doesn't count) and lack of a lumed bezel dot.

I quite like the watches coming out of Spain. They have a certain coolness about them IMHO. This one reminds me of a cross between a UTS and an AEgir. It looks good to me except for the lack of seconds hand. As for being the most purebred diver I don't think so, but no other watch comes to mind that I personally would give that title to either

I was understanding what Rich was referring too. Like you, the first thing that came to mind was "Pain in the a--", but then I went to the Pita Watch website. As far as a Spanish translation Pita means the same thing as the flat/pocket bread that you mentioned, but it is not used in all Spanish speaking countries.

For the watch, it does have a nice look with an interesting technology with no crown. My only issue is that it is around 2 cms thick.

This is actually pretty interesting.

Polycarbonate isn't as brittle as acrylic; the stuff I've seen in my work can actually flex slightly. It's the same material that's used in motorcycle helmet visors. This makes sense, since flexing will prevent the crystal from cracking. But I think polycarbonate is more prone to scratching though.

And I'd love to figure out how the winding backplate works. And that the strap also integrates brakes to lock that back plat in place when worn is pretty clever.

I dont know exactly but they use this polycarbonate as it can be deformed by the presure, so it can tolerate this pressure (5000m), i think no other watch can do this.
