Looks like a Philippines production.

There's a guy over there that churns these out by the dozen.

If the colour appeals, by all means, get one.

If you are after a 'different looking Seiko' another great option is a seller that calls himself kontrolsports on EBay.

His products too comprise after-market parts, but some great looking (my opinion only) pieces.

 

I should add there is a place for these Frankenmods but they need to be clearly and honestly called out by the seller as such.

 

729A had the pepsi bezel, black dial, WATER and RESIST is printed in RED. This from a seller in the Philippines? The movements are about 32 years old (or older), the 12 o'clock pip should be flush and lume should be almost non-existent and dial and hands should be close to the same level of lume and color. This one probably glows a bright, ghastly green

 

Sharp combo. Disgusting how the predator mod market preys upon unsuspecting buyers.

 

I notice a lot of disdain for mods in this thread, I also noticed that WUS doesn’t have an official forum for seiko mods.

What’s the general philosophy on mods in this community? Is it frowned upon? As a WIS, I would think it’s cool to see what people are modding out there.

I am a big modder and have a love for the creativity. Not all 'work' for me but there's no harm in it and as I can attest many a mod gets taken apart and redone in another style.

The issue with this thread is that the OP was asking if this was a rare but official version, since the dishonest and unscrupulous seller was trying that on for size to find an unsuspecting buyer.

 

Not sure where it came from but I suspect that Seiko’s involvement with it was only fairly limited.

 

Doesn't look real. Will not increase in value.
