Just bought this for $16.50 on eBay. The seller appears to be legit, been around for some time and has 99.5% good rating. This is supposed to be a NOS 1970's Glycine manual wind women's watch. The case looks decent, but not sure about the movement, anyone know anything about 1970's vintage Glycine watches? And not sure if this is the movement from the watch, and if so, why would it be out? Or is this a made-up manual wind from a quartz Glycine case? Does this look for real? I figure at the price I paid, I could always use it for practice watchmaking...

I think this has been up for discussion earlier and if I remember it right the conclusion was that it seems to be somewhat genuine (genuine AS movement etc). :-s

Not a high range watch though but from the time when Glycine (and a lot of other manufacturers) were trying to meet the competetion from the quartz-manufacturers with cheap and simple mechanical models.

If I'm wrong about this, feel free to correct me! ;-)

Thanks very much, I'm glad to hear that it might be genuine. I'm not sure if the photo he had of the movement was an actual movement from that watch or not. I don't know why he'd take a movement out of a NOS watch just to photograph it, curious...

Anyway, I jumped on it due to the price, the lowest bid was $9.99 and I got it for $16.50 plus shipping, not bad. I showed a picture of it to my wife and she liked it, so I'll give it to her if it arrives, haven't heard anything from the eBay seller, he's in Hong Kong! I'll take photos and write up my thoughts on it when (if) it arrives!

I bought one of those for my girlfriend just to check it out, and for the price it works excellent. In the one I bought there's a genuine AS movement (as far as I can see). And the rest of the watch seems ok (signed crown etc). But I have no idea if it's genuine NOS or something that's assembled later with parts from Glycine and AS....

I believe that it's more likely than not that these are genuine Glycine watches from the 1970s--though there have been an awful lot of these on eBay over the past few years.

In the 1970s, Glycine was essentially making 2 lines of watches--a higher end line (think Airman and its ilk) and a *lot* of mass-market watches with generic movements and almost-as-generic cases. My first Glycine (which I stupidly lent to a girlfriend in college who lost it within 4 hours) was of this lower tier of watches. Completely genuine, but meant to be sold through different channels than higher-end models.
