The inexpensive versions of these need to have links cut out to shorten them. Some people use sturdy wire cutters, some use Dremels. Measure twice, cut once!

There are nicer ones with removable links around the clasp, which are easy to spot because they have solid sections where the pin or screw is.

Some mesh straps let you change where the clasp clamps - these are my favorite because they're quick and easy to adjust, but not as sturdy as the ones above.
