Is this the best value for money diver from a major brand on the market right now? I think so.

A few days ago I wrote how I was looking forward to trying on the Citizen BN0260-54L at Windup. Some of you suggested that Macy’s might have it in stock and so I headed over. It was on sale and after trying it on I was smitten. I immediately bought it.

This watch has features more common to micro brands but at a lower price point. I got this for $360 USD. Sapphire glass, tool less micro adjust, screw down crown, 200m WR, a crowd pleasing 40.5mm diameter and 47mm lug to lug, and only 11.7mm thick. It wears like a dream. The design is safe, but overall well done and inoffensive and attractive. The blue is very welcoming. It’s my first Citizen EcoDrive and from everything I’ve read they’re nearly indestructible and very long lasting.

I picked this up for only $50 over grey market to get the warranty. To say I’m pleased is an understatement. I firmly believe that this is one of the best value divers on the market. Highly recommended.

Nah, the hands are just fine the way they are, the watches this homages had them so they belong.
The yellow dial version is NY0120-52X.
As far as longevity goes, I have a bulova marine star from 2009 with an 8215 movement that still runs as it did from new, it may need a service, but for all I care it can run until it breaks and then I'll put a new movement and maybe change the dial in it and then my son can have it.
I don't buy the claim that eco-drive movements are "better" than mechanical, they serve their owners very well and last a long time for sure but better is subjective, and yes I do own watches with eco-drive

This Citizen costs more but is better specced and can be found on sale easily
and IMHO is the best value diver out there from a major brand.
I looked at that one over and over again in pictures. Almost bought it multiple times, but, thankfully, I never did. I had someone send me one for a test drive, and I immediately didn't like it. Bezel/dial were different color blues. The clasp on the bracelet is insanely long. The bezel action felt weird to me. Etc. I was bummed, because I really, really liked how it looked it photos and thought it was a great piece. Still looking for a titanium diver. Wish Seiko would go back to making them like they did in the 90s.

I thought for sure I'd pick one of these up as an amazing value travelers GMT.

But holding it in hand... I knew I'd be paying for a bracelet I wouldn't wear, and the bezel action made it feel cheap.

For me, this one represented decent enough value that I bought one, $280

But keep in mind on my end that value has more to do with "does it appeal to me" than absolute pricing. So the Citizen posted in th OP, I don't find much value in it simply because It has little I like in a watch. Same thing with the vaunted Casio Duro. Diver I think represents a great value? Sinn U50 SDR.

Calling a $3370 watch a good value?!? Yep. It's exactly what I might want out of a dive watch, and they show up used around $2500. Value in this one has to do with personal, subjective lust factor, not price, but the price is also not completely out of reach. So as a watch I really, really like, at a price I could ostensibly afford, amazing value.

Yes, we moved on from pocket watches a century ago for a reason.

Back on topic, I love this new Eco-Drive diver, and plan to get one. I'll wait a little while to see if new variants pop up, but I'd be happy with the blue.

I love the Fujitsubo too--titanium rules--but I don't want another auto. I want a true grab-and-go diver on a bracelet to complement my 44mm titanium Eco-Drive on rubber.
