Hi guys!

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I have with my dive extension on my SMPc. I purchased the watch form my AD last year.I was lucky as they only had a couple left before the new 2018 version fully took over!

The issue is more of an annoyance then anything serious. But it is something I would like to get fixed. Basically my dive extension is extremely loose within the clasp. To the point where it will open 50% of the time I take off the watch. I believe the reason may be that the grooves in which the bar locks into are slightly too wide to hold the extension securely. When on the wrist the clasp itself is perfectly secure. But you can in fact lift up the extension while the clasp is closed, and because of this it can rattle quite a lot. (See video 2)

I've attached 2 videos. The first one showing how easily it opens. Just a wiggle, and then it will pop out.

And the 2nd video is showing showing how loose it is while the clasp is shut..

I'll probably have to return to the AD and get a new clasp sorted of course. But due to lockdown I can't do anything at this time. So I thought I'd come on here and see if anyone has had a similar issue. And/or can suggest a fix.

Thank you in advance!

Has it always been loose like this since you received the watch, or was it only apparent after you popped out the diver's extension for the first time?

When you're re-securing the diver's extension, check to make sure you're doing it like in this video (3:12)

The order of clicking the extension back into the clasp matters. Not saying that's necessarily what's going on here, but thought it might be worth mentioning!

Thanks for the reply! Yes it's been ever since I've had the watch, I didn't think much of it to start with and thought it was relatively normal. Luckily I have an over seas friend who owns the very same SMPc (black version) and when inspecting his, his dive extension is indeed incredibly secure. Where as mine is notably loose.

Yes the extension is certainly being folded exactly how it should.

Yeah, sounds like yours is not behaving as expected. That's totally a bummer!

I had a similar issue with a previous generation clasp. I took it to the AD and they fixed it on the spot. I think it was a case of bending something very slightly. Maybe your clasp had a ding at some point. All I know is they seemed to know what the problem was and he took it out the back and did it within a couple of minutes. Worth trying before you look into new clasps etc.

Well most people upgrade the clasp to the micro adjustable models from the newest models (4666 with 3 positions, 1154 with 6 positions, 1159 with 6 positions plus divers extension); would recommend you do the upgrade. In your case you only need the clasp, no endlink replacement is required. Check these threads:

I'm likely putting for sale an adjustable clasp soon, if interested let me know!
