I bet this has been beat to death and I apologize to add yet another thread to this topic but I really appreciate anyone who's willing to give me some advice.
I did do a search and spent a lot of time in some of the other threads and haven't seen this exact topic covered. Please direct me if it has!

I love the look of the MM300. I will never be able to afford a MM300. I have $500 to spend. So I'm looking at either getting an SKX that's been modded, or the Sumo. These are the two watches I feel will give me the most MM300 vibe on a budget, I've looked at the Tunas and that case shape is not for me, sorry. I love the Sumo's dial and I'm blown away that such a great dial could be had at that price, however the bezel, flat case shape and long lug size looks like it might be a turn off for me, but I can't know for sure because no dealer by me carries it, and it's impossible to get a sense of how it really looks on an arm because all the pics of it online are taken 4 inches away from the dial. (My wrist is 7.5" so I think I could pull it off, but just aesthetic wise it might be too much watch for my taste).

Whereas I love the case and shape of the SKX007, but not so much the dial. So a PMMM seems like the right choice, except with a PMMM I'm subject to the expertise of whoever did the mods which could've been done poorly and I'm likely going to lose the WR, am I right in assuming that?

So my questions are:
1. Are PMMMs I find on ebay and other places a safe bet or are there sketchy mods out there?
2. Is there a place online that sells professionally constructed PMMMs?
3. Does an SKX171 that's been modded lose it's 200m water resistance?
4. Can any Sumo owners here post pics of themselves with their Sumo's, but panned back a bit to see how it looks in relationship to a full arm/torso/body? My kingdom for a video of someone standing 20 feet away from the camera wearing a Sumo and just rotating around.

As for #3, any watch that has been opened after manufacturing needs to be professionally tested to ensure its water seal. Always assume that a modded watch has no water rating.

Don't have a pic handy, but the sumo wears very comfy on my 7.25-7.5" wrist. It's not a flat case shape at all, the luge are very curved, particularly the case as it looks from the sides - it's quite intricate and nowhere near as "bulbous" as it looks in head-on photos. I'd recommend buying it to see for yourself. In the rare case you can't get on with it it's an easy flip.

Also, the MM300 is in another field. I too purchased one and while a lovely watch it's just way to high and heavy. I too sold it on.

I also have had 2 SUMO's (black and blue) but whilst lovely, I found them a little large in diameter and the bezels too obvious.

Go for an SRP777 on an Uncle Seiko UZ199

Whichever you choose I would recommend going original and not after market. If you want to do modifications to your watch do them afterwards, so you will know what you did and who made it. Buying a modded watch is a risk in my opinion.

Id go the sumo Keith, its probably the best bang for buck seiko has.
The designs one of seikos best, dont bother modifying and SKX, get the sumo bro.

Get a sumo, I've never owned one but from everything I hear they punch way above their weight in the quality you get for the price.

it's a fairly recognized term on this board... i joined up in 2010 and it was in use quite a bit before that, as far as i can tell... but at the same time it's not like anyone would know what it means just by looking at it; i probably googled it way back when, too. =)

I’d go for the Sumo any day rather than a PMMM mod. Unless someone puts you on to a good source you don’t know the quality of the workmanship of a PMMM and the WR in not guaranteed.

I'd get a Sumo, you will be surprised by how good wears due to its case curvature. The only gripe could be the weight, but its not the heaviest

Had MM300 sold it because it was heavy. Had sumo sold it because it was too large for my 7 1/4 wrist.
I always go back to the skx and have a few in my box.
You can’t go wrong with either but the sumo is a better watch 6r15 movement I would go with that if u don’t mind a larger watch.
I know people say it wears small, and it may compared to other watches it’s size but it will always be larger than the skx

I love my Sumo. I love Sumo so much I keep coming back to it, despite the fact I have bought and flipped a few. The Sumo punches WAAAAY above its weight class. It ‘s like a middle weight fighter moving into the heavy weight classification and wnning the title belt - Marvelohs Marvin Hagler beating Mike Tyson for the title.!incredible value...incredible watch!

I love this thing on my wrist. Great presence, but certainly not too big.

When mine arrived in the mail, I asked my wife her opinion before removing the plastic and tags as I thought it might be too big for my wrist.

She replied, "No way is that too big! Keep it... it's a beautiful watch!"

Thanks for all the replies guys. It sounds like everyone is pro Sumo. However, I'm wondering about purchasing a new SKX007 and then getting a Sumo dial and hands, and possibly the 61r5 movement and having a pro assemble it for me? After searching last night it seems a few people have done this. Can anyone speak to whether or not this is a simple mod for a professional watch builder?
