Jenni is getting out of her lane here. She isn’t affordable range really. There are plenty of people that are making these videos. jomw urban gentry or Teddy. Personally though it feels like the entry level Swiss guys are getting a little obvious with the paid reviews. Was amazing the last year how many people had a Tissot Gentleman review. It worked I noticed it sold out pretty well.

Yeah Tudors are not 'affordable' watches by most people's definition. I have two, but I don't try and pretend they're cheap bangers. They're at the top of my collection (although not 'king' of it, my MM300 wears the collection crown).

Sometimes people lose perspective on this stuff. Your average Joe would start to sweat at the thought of spending 250 pounds on a watch.

She did however make one good point I had a lot of time for recently, which was talking about the Rolex OP as no longer being a good 'entry level' watch, because it's being stupidly overhyped and no longer available. Even if this was just a way to talk more about Rolex!

Affordable is a relative term. There are things that cost far more than a Tudor BB58 that can still be considered affordable. Affordable new cars, affordable housing...affordable but still expensive.

As we all know, "affordable" is relative. I'd call affordable something you would buy at a total impulse without needing to consider finances. That's probably $4,000 for some (or more) or $4 (or less) for others.

So, I don't really object to the price range of affordable watches in this video.

The distinction is the category.

BB58 = affordable luxury watch
BB58 != affordable watch

Watches mentioned:

1. Seagull 1963
2. Tudor Black Bay 41 (?!?!)
3. Seiko 5 Sports
4. Tissot Gentleman
5. Nomos something-or-other... I stopped watching

I'm thinking she is low maintenance compared to her husband - you should listen to him and his love for his gold sub. I like them both, but they are both more maintenance than either my wife or me in the watch world. Heck, I wouldn't want to pay German GST on his watch.

They may be Rolex fan boys/girls, but the video where he gives her a Rolex for a wedding present was adorable. 🥰

Affordable is not the same thing as cheap. Many in this subforum seem to be confusing the two.

A fan of Jenni-elle - who usually gets my respect, but not for this video which was very poor

So very many good watches in the sub $1000 range and we are shown a couple from her collection?!!!

$3000 & $4000 Nomos & Tudors are entry level luxury not 'affordables'

And what about the marketing of Chrononext - the irony of them sponsoring this video is not missed - they promote themselves as a luxury watch seller

disappointing

I don't watch enough of her to share the same feeling you do, but I won't be surprised if she does feel that way. I don't think she covers watches in her vids as detailed as Teddy does, but the personal charisma is there at least.

However, I predict that it would be much more difficult for her. Teddy had his startup way early selling watch straps so he already had a business established with ties to logistics, etc.

If Tudor Black Bay Heritage 41 = Affordable
then Jenni = high maintenance. ;)
I assume that's a lighthearted joke?

I don't think that's what high maintenance means....

Hmm.... I didn't watch the video, but I didn't think there was a problem until giving it a second thought. I guess it's my "English being my second language" acting up.

At first, I thought the way she considered the watches was okay because "affordable", aka "afford-able" meaning watches that can be afforded by people and are not completely out of reach from average folks in an office setting, 3~4k..... eh, bit pricy but not CRAZY.

Then I remembered, oh right.... the word "affordable" doesn't really mean that at all.... it is another word for "actually cheap"....

Tianjin Sea-Gull outsourced their ST19 (TY19) knowingly for these watches for over a decade. I've read that the companies like Red Star or Sugess (who were making the 1963 before) were/are under contract or even owned by Sea-Gull. But who knows. Anyway, just because Sea-Gull themselves decided to 'reissue' it much later–and virtually copied the existing popular design–doesn't now make the others replicas.
I'd say they are either all replicas, or none of them are.
A Sinn 104 is affordable for a Sinn. A Nomos Tangente is affordable for a watch with an in-house movement out of Glashütte. Etc.
'Affordable for..' =/= 'affordable'. Any price-range is on the table if we go by the former. But that's not what people want when they click an 'affordable' video. You can imagine people would be annoyed if she added a $20k Patek.

I think it's pretty clear a Tudor BB58 isn't in 'affordable' territory for a watch, unless you use the tired logic that $3.5k isn't hard to save up for in the west, and thus affordable. I could also blow $3.5k on strippers in one night after a wee bit of saving. Doesn't make that an affordable night out.

This might help:
"cheap enough that people can afford to pay it or buy it" says basically nothing.
Dictionary rules don't really apply. It's a subjective term. And most here stick to <$1000 (or <$500) as 'affordable' for a watch.

I think it's strange that she can pronounce every word right in English except for "started" in the beginning.
I'm pretty sure I've heard her pronounce it right in the videos, but never in the intro... Almost as if it was intentional.🤔

She studied in the UK for years. She can speak proper English. But she can't say started if it's within 20 seconds of the beginning of the video.
That's something.
