Jomashop Omega movement number question

Hello All—
I’ve been looking at some slightly older ATs on jomashop, which I understand to be a legit (maybe with bad customer service) gray dealer. Here’s my question: shots of the back of many ATs on jomashop show movement rotors without the movement number etched into it, and the same references on Omega’s site show the number (eg a 231.10.39.21.03.002 with an 8500 movement has “Omega Co-Axial 8500” etched in the rotor, but joma images only have “Omega Co-Axial” etched in the rotor)—anyone know what’s going on with that? Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi,
On a legit watch with a 8500 caliber there should be a red “8500” engraved on the oscillating weight and a serial number engraved on both the balance bridge (hidden by the oscillating weight on the picture) and under the bottom-left case lug, not present on the picture. It could have been photoshopped out, though, but I guess there is no way to tell for sure unless you know for a fact that’s what the dealer usually does, or unless you see the real thing.

Can you provide a link to one of the watches you are looking at?

Years ago, it was common for gray market dealers to remove the serial number to obscure the origin of the watch, but that has mostly gone by the wayside by now.

I've never heard of anything else being removed.

Joma has never been accused of selling counterfeits, but their warranty is next to worthless and you might end up with a returned watch that you'll need to complain about - but you'll ultimately prevail.

I'm not sure if you can't get close to Joma prices if you call Topper or that guy in Chicago (his name escapes me right now). Continental Jewelers in DC used to have great prices, but they've apparently gone out of the watch business. The owner was a great guy but he lost interest when his wife died a few years ago.

Thanks for taking a look—Toppers has great prices, and I’ll probably go with a current AT from them, but the linked one above is discontinued, so I’ve been searching around for one still in the supply channels.

Looking at the photos, I suspect that number was photoshopped out. If you're interested in that watch then I'd ask them and ask that they send you pictures.

The serial number looks photoshopped out so I suspect they tell their photo guy to "remove numbers" - and 8500 is a number....
