Journey to OP36 (Larger Wrist)...

Hello Friends, I have a close to 7.75" wrist and like classic / vintage sizing in watches generally. As I get older, lighter watches in general appeal to me and (just a preference) larger watches to me feel better on Straps (vs. Bracelets).

I started looking at Rolex (after mostly being into micros, as I was learning about watches, brands & their pedigree). Initially the Explorer appealed to me a lot (the dial still does), but after trying both sizes numerous times - The Exp36 dial proportions worked wonderfully, but Bracelet Taper kept feeling odd & Exp40, the wideness of bezel, bracelet and clasp just felt too extra. Again these are just my opinions (I have friends who love both).

Then I started looking at OP and tried the 41 & 36.

Found that the Silver OP41 looked really huge (may be due to lighter color dial's openness) but in darker colors (Green, Black) OP41 looked good. Overall though, I found the OP41 a bit top heavy.

Then tried the OP36 and have to say with 20mm lugs and clasp having same width as OP41's clasp, the proportions & weight just seemed correct.

Luckily the AD had someone decline a Green OP36 (and I loved that it is more versatile than a Black, as it goes from Bright Green to almost Black based on lighting)...

So, eventually happy with my 1st Rolex and am sure my tastes will evolve over time... :)

I’m a huge fan of that green 36mm OP.
Congrats.

As a 7 inch wrist wearer of a 124270 I feel you on the smaller watch wrist comfort. The smaller explorer is so much more comfortable that the larger MKII that I own and the everyday wear experience reminds me of that everyday.
I know the trend is for smaller watches is still gathering steam but I’d be shocked if smaller being popular dosnt become even more of a thing going forward.
I can still appreciate a big watch ( my 44mm diver for instance ) but lowering my sizing threshold to include the explorer 36mm was the best move I’ve made.

The taper to 14mm at the clasp may be a little too much but I prefer the 19mm lug width for the way it gives the watch head similar proportions ( case to lug width ratio ) to the larger explorer. On my wrist the OP36 ( previous version ) always felt too small in a way that the 36mm explorer didn’t .
