I came across this raketa copernic on ebay. It's my first ebay purchase and if the price hadn't been so low, I might not have bid. The pics were not the best and I'm hoping for the best. I checked with USSRtime.com and seems the watch is ok as far as the dial and hands are concerned.

It's accompanied by another Russian watch that I don't know much about. All I can tell is that it is from 1995. I wonder what it says on the dial.

I also wondered about the crown but on Mark Gordan's site, there is an example of a watch like this with uncolored crown

MIne says hello.IT looks just like yours.Actually I have the second one too.iT is the same except it has Mockba on a red sheild with 850 below.

Thanks. I sort of stopped now. The prices are crazy. I saw one go for $80. I think I'll wait for a good deal, something between $40 and $55.

I can't say anything about the watch but the writing on the dial appears to be "50 юбилейные 1945-1995", meaning 50 (th) Anniversary, 1945-1995.
In other words, it's a WW2 aka "Great Patriotic War" commemorative watch.
"yubileenye" would be my best guess at pronunciation.

Paul, I always thought the Kopernic was normally fitted with the NP rather than NA, but I could be wrong, of course.

"yubileenye" is correct, this russian word/prononciation is so close to: "jubilee".....

I mean 2609.NP and 2609.NA, ostensibly identical full-bridge movements, but NP was factory rated to give a higher degree of accuracy (-10 to +30s vs -20 to +40s in 24 hours), with a slightly greater power reserve (44 hours vs 42 hours). The NA was used more extensively, hence more commonly found.

Judging by the Raketa 1998 catalogue, the Kopernic was indeed powered by the NP rather than the NA. But like another thread, if the bridge turns out to be marked 2609.NA, it's also possible that a compatible NA bridge was substituted during a repair.

Yes, you just wait until it comes after making a purchase with eBay and PayPal.
You should have gotten an email confirming your payment and hopefully a confirmation message and email from the seller.
If both you and the seller are in the USA the watches should be there within a week or so.

If you are in the USA and the seller is in Russia or an ex-Soviet country it may take anywhere from 2-6 weeks.
Patience is key. It's not usually the sellers fault that the postal service is so very slow over there.

PS. If I'm interpreting this correctly, "2609HA" really means "2609NA" because a Cyrillic "N" looks like an "H". "NP" would look like this: "НП"

Seele - do you know what the mechanical differences were between NA (HA) and NP? The better regulation is just a matter of adjustment, but presumably there's a mainspring difference to account for the longer power reserve? Any other differences, or is it just a different mainspring in the barrel?

PHD, I thought if someone knows the difference it would have to be you! It is possible that the NP were adjusted to a higher degree of accuracy at the factory. Knowing how Raketa used a different movement appellation for having an antimagnetic shield in the caseback while the movement remained the same, it might also be the case here. While it is indeed possible that the NP were built using particularly fine standard components, it is quite unlikely: quality control methods are good at screening out less-good pieces but not good at picking up particularly good ones. Regarding power reserve it may or may not be true that a better mainspring was fitted, but to be realistic, power reserve rating is in terms of "no less than" the number quoted so it could also be purely academic too.

As the NP was built in series, not built as NA but found to be particularly good as flukes in production, then a new bridge marked NP installed, I do suspect some higher-grade critical components were used, but they would not be immediately apparent. If that be the case, the use of a better main spring would not be out of the question.

Greetings from Indy! I bought the same style Kopernic. The crown on mine is the same color as the case. I bought it from a fellow WUS member and really love it. Just image, you get to see an eclipse once an hour! How much cooler can it get? The strap is 18 mm. I thought about putting on a black strap, but the watch buyer at the store where I do a lot of business showed me a red Hirsch strap that made the watch kind of pop. It doesn't look "wierd" on it. Some men may have a problem with wearing a red strap, but if you have a chance to see a nice red strap you might like it. I also boughta python strap that is kind of goldish to match the gold hour hand. I haven't put that on it because this strap just seemed to fit it's personality.

I bought mine for $50.00. It runs as accurate as my Hamilton Khaki and Tissot PRS516 automatics. From what I have heard, they are very sturdy watches and were built to last. You will get comments because of the unique appearance of the hands. I know it's a mystery dial by definition, but explaining that it also has an eclipse once an hour kind of interests some people.

I thought it looked very small but its the same size as my Seiko, 35mm. I found a black cloth strap lying around and put it on. It looks good. I got some problem with my memory card reader so pics will have to wait.

The watch is in pretty good condition but it was used so some of the black coating is coming off. Doesn't look too bad, but you can see some gold color on certain parts of the case.

This is the loudest watch I heard. I put it on my nightstand for the night. Very loud.

I think it was used often by the previous owner as the edges of the case have lost the black coating

It looked small at first but my eyes just deceived me. Its 35mm and it works for me.

I found a nylon strap that my parents bought in the early 1990s. Worked out nicely.
