Hi All,

Have not posted for a bit so thought I would offer something up for your thoughts.
I was lucky enough to pick up this large case Amphibia at the end of last year, there's no case type for this Vostok as far as I know? I have been after one for a while and this was a lovely example.
I have seen 3 combinations of dial/case, the Scuba Dude, Cosmonaut and sailing ship. I would hazard a guess that it's very late Soviet era or perhaps within the Transitional period?
An interesting point of note, when cleaning the case I took the 2416b Movement out and was amazed how light the case was. Further investigations lead me to believe that the case is a plated alloy, its way to light to be either brass or stainless steel. Would love to see anyone else's examples and more info on this case type if it's out there.

Regards Matt

103ssv, & joeuk, thanks for the comments, joeuk, I just need to get a strap sorted then I will post one up. 103ssv, Great to see some other examples! I think were on the right track Transitional dials on your examples, so these watches were probably assembled from Soviet and Post era parts.

Very nice find!
Here's one I picked up for a few pennies. The seller didn't know it was anything unusual, and I have to admit I didn't notice anything unusual about the case until I had it in my hand.
Despite the wrong hands and lack of "made in USSR" on the dial, I think it is possible that it's the original dial - at least, the tell-tale signs of an amateur dial swap aren't there. At any rate, I will likely search for a "21 jewels" CCCP scuba dude dial for it someday, as I much prefer it to the KGB dial.

Interesting about the weight of the case. I'd love to know what the material is. I'd love to know what the story is with these cases.

Amil, Thanks for posting, I knew you would have and example or 10 of the now named "King Sized Vostok" do you think Vostok would really have cast or machined a case in Titanium?

Aluminium alloy is much cheaper?

I just picked this up on eBay, and thought I'd resurrect this thread to ask if there's any new information on these cases? Has any case ID been found? Has anyone figured out why they were issued?

Are there any specs? All of the others I've seen have had a 2416.b; this one has a 2409 and a non-auto case back. That leads me to suspect it's a franken, but who knows?
