My pick for the top 5 iconic watches of all time.

1. Omega Speedmaster Professional, what could be MORE epic than going to the moon and into space?
2. Rolex Submariner, too much to type out about this timepiece. It simply IS.
3. Rolex Daytona, again you can write a book here.
4. Rolex Day-Date, the "President" the quintessential "I made it watch" to many.
5. Panerai, take your pic. Nothing else quite like them out there and they have as devoted a following as anything out there.

What is your five?

For me, these are:

1. Omega Seamaster Professional ("Blue Bond")
2. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean
3. Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra
4. Rolex Submariner
5. Rolex Explorer

Purely personal . . . and I don't own any of the Rolexes!

1. Speedy Pro -- It went to the moon. That's an icon.
2. Rolex Submariner -- Most imitated modern diver.
3. IWC Big Pilot -- The classic pilot watch.
4. Tag Heuer Carrera Chrono -- Often imitated chrono styling.
5. Cartier Tank -- A symbol of sophistication.

Good question - made me think . I guess it depends what you mean by iconic, but if you mean instantly recognisable for their style, even by non WIS, and spawning numerous style imitations and homages, I am going for:

1. Rolex Datejust
2. Rolex Sub
3. Breitling Navitimer
4. GShock
5. Omega Speedy

Interestingly when I asked my 11yr old lad the same question, he picked out Rolex Sub, Breitling Navitimer, GShock and Omega Seamaster :)

[EDIT - reading other posts, I agree the Swatch should be in there as should something dressy like a plain clean Breguet]

I'll take iconic to mean that it's the watch that best represents a certain type of watch. And 'for me' to mean, within my reach.

Dive Watch
- DOXA Sub
Chrono - Omega Speedmaster Professional
Dress Watch - Baume and Mercier Hampton
Versatile watch - Rolex Submariner
Outdoor / Rough weather / 'Adventure' watch - Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon.

How about:

Rolex Submariner: considered the quintessential dive watch by so many people.

Timex Marlin: remember all those commercials in the 50's and 60's?

Bulova Accutron: mention tuning fork watch to most people and I'll bet they think of Bulova Accutron first.

Pulsar Time Computer: first mass-market solid-state digital watch ever. Major paradigm shift in timekeeping.

Swatch: who didn't have one in the 80's?
