hi,

I'm looking for a sporty but understated chronograph with steel bracelett.

I thought I'd show you some pics of watches I really like but that are a little expensive for me right now.

It'd be really cool if you could tell me a few alternatives since I'm new in the watch-scene :)

(a quartz version would be fine also)

thanks a lot. her are watches I've found so far:

-hamilton khaki field chrono

-davosa pilot sport chrono

-mido multifort chrono

What about this Pulsar military chrono. This is the civilian version of the RAF issued watch. It's quartz and very affordable.

Here it is on sharkskin

Honestly the Hamilton gives you an automatic chrono... and is the watch you were first keen on...

The model you linked is different from the one posted... I don't like it as much as the first Victorinox posted...

I personally own that Swiss Army model and quite like it. Only downside I see to it is the lume isn't that great. You can get it in black or titanium and I got mine for 280+ shipping though it MSRPs for 500.
Here is the review of mine:

And here's a wrist shot on my 7"ish wrist.

It's close to midnight so the date is changing so just remember it normally looks aligned otherwise! haha

If it just the look you are after, Orient makes a nice non Chrono automatic that looks similar for around $300 with the 49% off coupon codes.

They also have this nice quartz chrono for around $200 with coupon code. Solid Japanese watches.

I have the quartz Swiss Army chrono classic:

It is a great watch. Solid, nice fit/finish. It's become my grab-n-go watch lately.

I also have the Hamilton Khaki Field automatic chrono:

Picked it up here, in fantastic condition, pre-loved by another member of WUS for a tad over 400 bucks. You don't specify your budget (or I missed it), but you may want to consider picking up a used Hamilton if it falls in your price range. You likely won't see many for sale here, but if you are patient one WILL turn up eventually.

I would go for the victorinox chrono classic or have you thought about a hamilton jazzmaster chrono in either quartz or auto? they are really nice. another option would be a russian w/ the poljot 3313 movement. a lot of them are very nice looking and good bang for your buck.

@cotton:

he only talked about the movement and not the watch :) that's why I asked what about the rest of the watch. because mainly I'm interested in a good looking watch and not that much in a good movement. and I didn't understand what the fact that the movement that hamilton uses is built in china also has to with the topic. it doesn't, unless chinese watches commonly look like hamilton khakis. I don't now if that's what he meant or if that's the case :)

but anyway, I don't think I'm gonna go with a chinese watch. I think I prefer some european quality watch or maybe a hamilton which seem to have a good reputation also

@ clark:

yeah I've seen those. I do like the auto chrono but that one is like a thousand bucks and the quartz.. well.. it's ok I guess. but I'm still searching :)

Franky,

I'm interested in a good looking watch and not that much in a good movement.
Why not have both? Many here would certainly argue that the movement is the most important part of the watch.

The common Swiss movement used in automatic chronographs is the Valjoux 7750. The most affordable Swiss-made automatic chronograph watches, like the Hamilton, are based on this well-respected movement. What Mike was saying is that the Chinese have built a "clone" of the original Swiss designed/built 7750 movement, and are putting it into even less expensive automatic watches. So if you are looking for an automatic chronograph for less than the price of the Hamilton, you should see if you can track down some watches based on the Chinese 7750 clone. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions as I'm not that familiar with Asian brands other than Seiko.

I would recommend going with a pre-owned Hamilton if that is the watch you really want. They come up in the sales forum now and then for around $500 on the bracelet. Be aware that versions of the Hamilton that came from the factory on a strap cannot accept the factory bracelet because the lugs are drilled in the wrong location. The endlinks fit just fine, but the springbars won't line up correctly. Aftermarket bracelets with no endlinks like the Watchadoo are a great alternative.

One last suggestion...
Citizen 2100....
Eco-drive, radio controlled, mechanical chronograph, hand assembled in Japan.... What a chrono!

300-450 dollars depending on where you buy... and bad ass....
