Looking for a first chronograph...Longines Big Eye vs...Speedy??

While perusing some pilot/aviation chronograph watches, my wife pointed out she really like the Longines Big Eye titanium in blue. I had seen the black dial stainless steel version years ago and while it drew some attention, i forgot about it. This blue one now though....is now growing on me.

Is there anyone here who owns either Big Eye with any thoughts?
It has some funny quirks that give it personality such as the oversized minute dial which funny enough is by 3 minutes intervals rather than the standard 5 minutes.

For more background, I am also in the hunt for my first chronograph here....so as recently as last week i thought i would finally take the plunge and get the Speedmaster 3861 in Hesalite. Of course, the price point of that is far higher than the big eye so now i'm trying to consider what i want here.

Also this would be my first titanium case watch. i've read the pros and cons. Obviously the weight being a big one. Does it really make it nicer to wear because i'm worried about the 14mm+ thickness advertised on the Big Eye and how well it will fit.

I'm just confirming with a local AD to see if they have it in stock so i can try it on.

So what would you lean towards - the black dial Big Eye, the petrol blue dial Big Eye (titanium), or go for the Speedy 3861?

Thanks for any advice, WUS!

I like the Longines quite a lot. the movement is actually something special. However, I think the black dial fits the overall vintage aviation aesthetic a little better than the blue fume dial does.

I agree. From what I read Longines didn’t bother to try to stick to the vintage look for the the new fume dial but rather just wanted to create something modern and different. I kinda wish then they didn’t keep the tan faux patina look numerals on the blue dial then…

Having admired the black dial Big Eye for a while, I finally pulled the trigger and love it. I’m a big fan of titanium but, to me, the overall aesthetic of the black dial made more sense and is timeless versus trendy. I also had a Speedy Pro years ago and sold it. The hype and allure quickly wore off after purchasing it. It just fell flat. I didn’t like manually winding it ever day nor the Hesalite, 2 reasons a lot of people love it. I’m likely the exception but I’d pick the Big Eye over the Speedmaster. The subtle quirkiness, movement, and price point make it a winner in my book. Mine says hello!

I think the Longines is gorgeous from the front but not so much from the side. The $1800 price of the grey-market stainless steel model makes it tough to pass up if you want a cool aviation type chrono though.
