Well, Louis Erard has navigated through troubled times for some years. I first saw some LE watches in 1994/1995. At that time the LE range consited of 7 model lines:

Carrea (Square)
First Impression (ETA quartz movements)
Newton (mechanical watches, most of them with steel cases, bezels 18k gold plated)
Longue Line (inhouse modified movement cal. ER 50 - Regulateur, ER 51 Regulateur with power reserve indication)
Recontre
Serie 0900 quartz / Serie 900 automatique.

Price range was about 520 DM to 3450 DM. At that time Logines, Oris watches were in the same price range but LE watches never became as "famous" as Longines and Oris. LE tired to concer the asian markets but finally LE failed. In 2003 a private investigator bought LE and now they are back on the stage. I´ve seen their collection at Baselworld 2006 and was attracted by some of their watches. They are still unknown and maybe underrated but I´ll have a closer look at Baselworld 2007.
The model you´ve shown was exhibited at Basel too:

Well, seen the overall finish/quality of the LE watches I´ve seen at Basel and seen the price point you mentioned I´d say yes. Other options - as already mentioned: Oris, Longines, or (if it has to be a square case): Mühle.
