Love the Spirit Zulu 1925; I wish all Zulus would get this rotor and open caseback

I think the new Spirit Zulu 1925 looks great, though I think the 39mm would be a bit small for me so I wish they offered it in the 42mm. Interesting that they're only $1050 more than the all-steel, whereas the existing "gold cap" Zulus are $1500 more, since at least visually I think these look "more gold" (though I doubt either has anywhere near enough to justify the price hike).

You'd usually think of a special edition like this not changing anything except swapping out the bezel, for cost effectiveness reasons, so it's notable that it gets the open caseback that I've always thought was conspicuously missing from the standard Zulus. The rotor design is also very neat and appropriate: a world map with the prime meridian marked off. I'd love to see these features make into the regular model.

You are not kidding. I am surprised I have not seen more articles/reviews of this wonderful watch. Though this model has all the same dimensions as the "regular" Zulu Time, it almost seems to be a Spirit Zulu Time 2.0. Very elegant while still sporty and utilitarian.

I prefer closed case back, it could be much more individual than demonstration of pretty finished, but otherwise generic caliber.
When on a bracelet or folding clasp strap, you can't even look on caliber from convenient angle.
Longines's medallions in heritage series are awesome, I'd like to see something like this instead.
So, manual winding chronograph without bridges on the top (say, no Valjoux descendant) and strap with pin buckle are minimum requirement for open case back, other than that it is redundant.
ST19, while not so precise and reliable, provides much more fun of this kind.

Granted, the medallions on the Conquest Heritage and Flagship Heritage are S-tier. Even the 3D guy on the Legend Diver is pretty A-tier. If the closed-caseback Spirits got something of that caliber I'd probably prefer that--but what they actually get is fairly meh.

Nice post! I was wondering when someone was going to post about this watch.

Things I like are no 'automatic' under the Longines logo, and no sub second markings like the other Zulu watches.

The other companion watch also in 39mm is this one (below), which has my attention. 2 tone black/grey bezel. Also, no 'automatic' under the Longines logo, and no sub second markings. Also has the 1925-2025 on the dial like the gold one in the op. Very clean.

The fact that this one is available in both sizes and doesn't have the special caseback makes me wonder if this is a more "standard" model and we can expect to see these tweaks trickle down to the rest of the Zulu line. On the other hand it does have the "hidden" 1925-2025 on the dial, so maybe not (or maybe that's a temporary addition, which is why it's subtle).
