Suddenly I saw two identical 24h watches in ebay I haven't seen before. Both from German sellers. They were called MCM Twenty Four
. One of them was listed as auction, the other one as "Buy It Now" for EUR 89 (or "Make an Offer"). I haven't heard about MCM watches and went wild (very stupid!). I put EUR 91 as my highest bid and I lost this auction! Unbelievable, for sure it was too much for this watch. Thereafter I offered immediately for the second watch EUR 70 and the offer was accepted quickly. That was already a little bit better move.
I think that even EUR 70 is too much for this watch. From the other side all the buying situation was fun, I really like the shape of the watch and it's in a very good condition.
First I started to decipher MCM. MCM was founded in Munich, Germany, in 1975, as „Michael Cromer Munich". Later in 2005 this company was purchased by one South Korean company and MCM should be read now as „Mode Creation Munich". Clear, we have a fashion brand watch here.
Here below is the MCM logo and I like it. What do you think is on the logo? I don't know, maybe necklace. But I like to imagine, that it's an eagle (which is of course wrong).
It seems to me that this watch is produced in Michael Corner's time, usually in the 90s. But this is only a guess.
What attracted me first was the unusual shape of case and lugs. And the white, black and green dial is nice with old fashioned hands. BTW, very legible dial, as you can see.
From the case back we read that it is a 3 ATM water-resistant watch. And it is a "registered model". I don't know what it means. The other watch on the auction had number 091 below logo. The seller thought, that this is serial number. Maybe yes, maybe not - my watch is without a number on this place.
After opening the case we see, that on the inner side of case back is a sticker "5 nuβtein 02". Nuβtein is a watchmaker in Munich (www.nusstein.de
) where the battery was changed.
Movement - principally same FE 10030A as I saw in German Airport ( https://www.watchuseek.com/f5/airport-%96-rare-swiss-german-24h-dress-watch-aww-19-a-873245.html
). Airport has 5 jewels, MCM only one. The movement model number 10030A is placed below battery and there is also a second number - 914. (Airport had 813.) No idea what it means.
The watch is in a good shape. Protective plastic sticker on the case back is still there.
I don't think that this watch was earlier described in any watch forum. Now it is done. Nothing exceptional found here. The best part for me is the shape of the case. This is unique. MCM Twenty Four is normal, wearable quartz watch, for what I paid too much
Lesson for me. Why the auction collected 12 bidders and the other watch was selling several weeks (even on chrono.24 as I noticed later) until I finally made my offer. The difference is, that the auction watch was described as "MCM Twenty Four 24h", the second watch only as "MCM Twenty Four". People are searching "24h" watches and nobody is looking for "twenty four" watches.
