Mido Ocean Star 200 question.

Hello All!!

A week ago, I bought this Mido Ocean Star 200 watch new in a department store here in Mexico. It is a beautiful two tone 200m WR watch, with the Mido Caliber 80.621 (it gains only 0.2 sec a day!). The problem is that the luminescence of markers and hands is very poor in total darkness, even if I expose the watch to strong light for 1 or 2 minutes.

My question is for all of you knowing the brand or having one of this watchs: Is this poor luminiscence normal or it is a manufacturing defect?... I should clarify that in specifications of the watch, the manufacturer states that both markers and hands have Super-LumiNova.

Thanks in advance for your answer, Guys. Wish you all have a happy weekend.

p.s. Another question: Is there a forum on Mido watches here at watchuseek.com?... I couldn't find it anywhere.

Lume quality can vary widely even among different models of the same brand. Super-Luminova also doesn't really mean anything without knowing the type. C3 is usually pretty good, everything else is a crapshoot depending on how many layers are used. My guess is that's probably how they all are.

The lume on the Mido GMT I had was poor, which was pretty much a deal breaker. I couldn't read it at night. Shame, because Mido makes great watches. If you can get over the lume, you'll be all set. Beautiful watch, BTW!

The problem is the hand style does not support copious amounts of lume. I have a Mido also.

I was originally a bit disappointed, even though I've owned enough watch to know better. But, I have learned with many watches that even though they seem to fade quickly after you turn off the flashlight or UV flashlight, the real test is hours later in the dead of night and your pupils are fully dilated, can you see the time?

I've had plenty of experience with this, as being over 70, I regularly have to find my way to have my old man's pee at 3AM. I found my Mido sufficed very well. No lumed watch dial will stay bright all night, so charge it up, sleep with it, and when you wake in the middle of the night in the dark, see what it looks like.

It is what it is; there is no fault. The manufacturer gives no guarantee of level of luminosity (as in, a measure of light output) after a certain amount of time and after a certain amount of exposure. If you want stronger lume, you generally need to spring for a more expensive watch which has better quality lume, or more of it.

Hi! I bought 2 days ago an Ocean Star GMT. Lume is fair enough to read time time in the dark. If you can live w/o it, that's a beautiful watch. I went through the same search you did about a Mido forum...it is a shame there isn't one, nor I see a way to start one. Love Midos, and here in Colombia have official dealers.
Here is mine
