What is a mushroom brand?
Those are brands that contract for chinese watches, come up with a fancy sounding name, some BS story of their heritage, ridiculous msrp and list on ebay.
Sprout like "mushrooms".
Got it. Thanks!

I don't think omikron is considered a mushroom watch. They have been around a very long time. almost completly unknown until shopathometv started to sell them. I have one. its swiss.
I thought Pierce was too...very old brand, but thier website is vauge about where they made now

Pierce was re-established. No traditional roots or whatever. They just took over the name.

Well, Omikron isn't registered at the Swiss Chamber of Commerce which feeds some doubts on its origin. Imho not to compare with Omikron out of the 60ties/70ties. Website is registered in the US, selling chronos for 4995 USD with a "patented two-way winding system" is just absurd becuase two-way-winding exisits since long. If they aren't a mushroom brand they are telling tales at least.
Can anyone comment on the reliability of mushroom brands?
Is it okay to buy one or should one stay far away from one?
 With all the BS that's out there, there's bound to be mushrooms.

Nothing wrong with re-launching the name as long as they are Swiss made, good quality etc... are you saying these are Chinese made with a Swiss contact address to give credence....like MWC etc...?
reliability on a mushroom brand? depends which one and who here owns one to give a user experience. I guess I got suckered by omikrons site and its early history as a watchmaker. they seem to have combined the old and the new history together which can throw you off when reading from there site. mike did a deeper search and found they are not registered in switzerland. I think thats a better way to look at a company that says they are swiss made.
does omikron make a good watch? yes from my use of the corsair.

I was talking about Pierce1883
Pierce is an enterprise (or should I say a one man show) of Lars Korfhage, Dargun/Germany. The watch dials do not say "Swiss made" but "est. in 1883 Swiss" which refers to the foundation date of the old Pierce manufacture. Be careful though.

BTW: There´s no real swiss contact. For Switzerland and Italy there´s an address in Bolzano/Italy.

Well, it always depends on your expectations. Nobody can tell if they will last for ten years because they don´t exist that long.

Some watchmakers here in Germany refuse to repair those watches caused by the non-existing after sales service (impossible to get spare parts if needed). I remember one watchmaker who had a list of watches he is able to repair and watches he can´t repair. Don´t recall the website´s name but all the mushroom brands have been on the "No"-list.

Yeah same company Pierce1883, funny they say Swiss movements, assembled and adjusted in Germany....mmm....one would think final assembly/adjustment would have been just as economical in Switzerland , plenty of small workshops who contract... its only a stones throw away and they could have had "Swiss Made" on the dial legit.....maybe a more honest statement would be made in China with a swiss movement, packaged and adjusted (correct time) in Germany?? :)

BTW, many are sold via TV shopping channels which is really no surprise:roll:
Where would one look for mushroom brands? Other than e-bay
