Hey all so I'm making the leap from enthusiast to maker haha. I was just wondering what kind of lathe and tools you guys use to cut stainless. I was thinking of making a prototype case out of brass to figure out what I'm trying to make before I try in stainless. Any tips would be helpful thanks

I've made stainless cases on a Schaublin 102, and would consider that or similar size and quality of machine the minimum necessary. A milling machine is almost essential as well, there something like a Deckel FP1 would be great but you can squeak by with the much smaller Aciera or Sixis F1/S101. You'll want a radius turning attachment for the lathe and indexing for the milling machine.

There are probably people doing stainless casework on Sherline stuff but there are also people who pay to get beaten up.

Porky, have you ever used a machine tool? A file? What is your DIY level, have you made anything out of wood? That didn't need nails or screws?

You gotta give a little more info.
