Following up on the entertaining quiz thread by schnurrp, I'm showing my Sportivnie watches since we discussed 17-jewel hacking movements on the quiz thread.

I've had these watches for some time now without showing them - no, Dashiell, it's not because I'm humble :). I bought most of these during my early collecting days when I made many mistakes and often bought franken watches or watches with repainted dials.

So, let's see what we have here.

This first one I've always been suspicious about. It looks perfect and nothing jumps out as wrong - which is exactly what has bothered me. It's too good. The movement is dated 4-56 but it looks like it just left the factory. Winds smooth and runs fine but I've never had it serviced.

I have a few others in an assortment of second hand colors, dial colors, lume. I don't know which are right.

What do you all think?

Some very nice watches in really excellent condition. Congratulations!

If I had to critique, I'd say #2 has the wrong hands (should be like #1; catalog), and #4 has the wrong second hand (should be shorter, like #5; catalog).

One small detail I find interesting: on watch #1, your hands appear nicely rounded and three-dimensional. I have several Sportivnies with the same hands, so I have no doubt they're authentic. But on my watch with the same dial, the hands are flat. Same size and shape, but 2D rather than 3D. Curious.

Unusually good condition all around, well done!

Glad you like them. Thanks.

So, the one I had the most doubts about (#1) is likely the most correct one.

I'll take a closer look at the hands of #1 tomorrow.

Over the years I've seen many examples of the Sportivnie with a huge variety of hand styles and color. I can usually spot Slava hands or Raketa hands, but with the Sportivnie it seems the factory used whatever was on hand (pardon the pun).

Yes, I think so. It appears flawless and barely used. You can ship it this way if you want to give it a bit more wrist time.

Indeed, quite diverse. I have noticed six different hand sets (counting both the 2D vs. 3D hands described above), and I'm sure I don't know them all.
