Hey all,
I know some time ago, someone here was asking about watch advertisements. I briefly went through some of my NatGeo's, and found some. After WWII, the magazine almost completely abandoned their watch adverts, but between WWI and WWII, they had plenty.
As to who and where they advertised, is fairly standard. Hamilton watches were almost always the first page. Elgin and Waltham were always near the back. Longines advertised solely on the inside back cover, and Gruen and Illinois were about 10 pages in from the front. These were all full page adverts, and Ingersoll had only a 1/8 page advert.
Hamilton, Elgin, and Waltham almost always had some story about the travels of their watches, whereas the actual photo of the watch ended up small and sometimes I think an afterthought.
Anyways, I have added some of the highlights of each manufacturer from these magazines. Just wanted to share....
