Hello,
I received this watch from a person that passed away. I was told it was given to him years ago and that is all the information I have on it. The links appear to be solid stainless and the watch has a "good" weight to it. The back of the case says Stauer stainless steel case china movt 5atm water resistant. The clasp on the band also says china stainless steel. Well I know its nothing like my old Rolex I had but I cant seem to find any info or value on this watch. Please help..
Thanks
Dave

Hello Dave,

Welcome to watchuseek.

I guess you don't see many magazines targeted at a mainstream male audience
(mechanics, science, hunting, etc). Stauer places ads in those publications.
I doubt Stauer makes any watches, but they are still in business, and they
still offer that model for $147. You can search on Google for Stauer.

Thanks,
rationaltime

Stauer watches: The truth

I am a watch collector and know a quit a bit about the watch industry. This is an unbiased opinion on Stauer watches. I got a Stauer watch 4 years ago. I still wear it. I get compliments on it constantly and yes it's still running accurately. Do I think Stauer watch quality compares to a high end Swiss watch company? No. But then again a Swiss made automatic is not $99. One thing for sure that people who spend time trashing Stauer online make me think. I read that one guy called the Stauer graves watch ugly but he owned one. Didn't this guy choose this watch to buy? Didn't he see a picture when he chose it? I always spend money on watches I think are ugly. So either he received a different watch then the one he picked out or its a phony bad review. But why would anyone put a phony review one Stauer watches? Watch snobs who have nothing better to do? Who knows? The truth about Stauer is that they have Chinese assembled movements. All movements whether they are made in china or anyplace else are designed to last and keep accurate time. China's problem is quality control which has been improving because of technology. Stauer looks like a high end watch as a matter of fact the graves watch replicates a 1933 Patek Phillipe. Its quite a cool concept. So here it is. You want a nice looking watch for a hundred.or so that's automatic? Then Stauer is a good choice if you like vintage looking watches with a twist.

Re: Stauer watches: The truth

Don't know why I read this thread, but I gotta admit it's one of the stranger threads I've read in a while.
Let's see, a guy who's got a Stauer but never seen their ads, then mentions it in relation to Rolex (that musta driven a few Rolex guys over the cliff), a polite and informative reply, an apparent pick up line in a zombie thread resurrection, and finally a rambling discourse on a Stauer that is so far from fact one wonders about the validity of his first sentence. (OK, I am not wondering at all).

Re: Stauer watches: The truth

I unsure what was weird. Maybe it was the fact that someone actually likes stauer watches. Actually my favorite watch I own is my longines admiral. I like the looks of vintage watches with a modern twist. What got me into stauer was getting the Graves watch for fathers day 4 years ago. I still wear it and it keeps pretty good time. Now as far as the copy cat comment. I went to see a band the other night and they where a U2 tribute band. Do I consider these guys copy cats? Of course not they are paying to one of the best bands in history and yes its quite a cool concept. That goes for the same for stauer they are paying tribute to some of the best and historical watches ever made and even if they are made in china it makes them affordable to own. If they were Swiss made the price would quadruple and they wouldn't be as successful as they are. Oh and by the way I never mentioned Rolex once.

Re: Stauer watches: The truth

A urban myth is a company like steinhausen claiming they existed in 1923. But 1933 Patek Phillipe selling for over 11 mill bought by Henry graves is a fact. Also a 1936 IWC watch selling for 600k is Also a fact which I believe Stauer calls there. Noire watch which just means black as in black dial like a 1936 IWC pilots watch. I'd love to own alot of historical watches but I can't afford to. I can afford to own a Stauer
