Hi,

I am thinking about buying a vintage russian watch as a gift for someone who is about to graduate with a Russian degree. I am new to collecting, period, and no jack $#!+ about Russian watches. Well, I know from reading the vintage forum that eBay sales out of the Ukraine are untrustworthy.

I need advice on buying a modestly-priced, well-running vintage Russian watch. It needs to have a good look with a suit and for casual wear.

Yeah, I probably should post in the Russian forum. Yeah, I will probably buy from WUS sales or a known US seller that WUS recommends. But I'm starting here because you guys are awesome.

Thanks,
tinyfrogs

As a long time regular here on Vintage and Pocketwatches I would suggest you go straight to the WUS Russian watches forum. Especially if you are looking to get a wristwatch. Our colleagues over there have much more detail knowledge for vintage Russian watches.

Let us know what you decide for.

I agree with Eric, the Russian watch forum is the place.
I haven't seen a lot of vintage Russian discussed in here, and what I know about
Russian brands I could write on the back of a postage stamp...with a two inch paint brush.

I'm sure that there is one or two in here that know vintage Russian inside out though and
could make good recommendations.

Ah, I see you did that already whilst I was making this post

... and a great Raketa too! :-! Not that I am anywhere close to "knowing a lot" though; still a novice really.
