Regarding Aquastar's DS39 announcement today, as they say, timing is (sometimes) everything. I was very tempted to purchase the DS Chrono when it first launched last year, but feared that with it's hefty case size and height, it would not sit comfortably on my 6.75" wrist...so I refrained. I thought that a 39mm or 40mm would have been perfect.
When the smaller (36.75mm) non-chrono DSII lauched, while I would have much preferred to see it as a 'chrono' model (and a bit larger), it had a similar enough dial appearance to the chrono, so I jumped on it. Indeed I was one of the first to order one immediately following the launch announcement. Sadly, after anxiously awaiting its arrival, upon landing I was disappointed to see that the DSII's case size was just too small even for my relatively small wrist. I thought I could get used to the case size --- grow to love it --- but it just wouldn't sing to me. I sold it soon after at a significant loss, not being able to recoup the additional it had cost me on the currency exchange and import fees and taxes. That was several months ago.
In the meantime, to satisfy those horologic urges (you wouldn't be on the WUS forum if you, too, didn't experience them) I purchased two classic pieces, a Navitimer and an Explorer II. The idea of acquiring another Deepstar was deep-sixed. Then comes along Aquastar's email announcement today --- just what I had previously hoped for....a 39mm chrono! Clearly Aquastar was responding to the market voices out there. If not for my recent purchases, I would have jumped on a pre-order DS39. Love the dimensions and everything else about it. However, the watch budget is now ba-bye, for the long-term no less. As I started off saying, timing is (sometimes) everything. To those able to acquire the new DS39mm, I'm terribly envious; but I won't swap my Navitimer or Explorer II for your DS39, in case you're offering.
